Summary
After twenty years of peace post fighting in a war and a long career bounty hunting on the planet he now calls home, Rex finds himself trapped in a lonely and unfulfilling rut and doesn't want to admit it.
However, after being set a challenge to change by his Mand'alor, Rex is faced with his whole world being shaken up in a single call from Social Services, about a relationship he had a decade ago and the consequences he'd never known about until now.
Now he's out of his rut, out of his comfort zone and most definitely out of his depth, whether he wants to be or not.
But Rex has never run from a challenge before, and he's not about to start now. It's only when the stakes are high that the reward is worth it. And this might be the best reward he ever got that he never asked for.

The Mandalorian trainers didn’t know it, didn’t want to know it, chocked it all up to faulty construction or natural disasters or just plain bad luck. Even as it breathed down their necks, they couldn’t face the possibility that the decisions they had made and the children that they’d doomed would haunt them.
The Vode, in truth, had the right of it: it always started when she came from the sea.

Or: The Clone Wars start a week after Qui-Gon dies and Anakin becomes Obi-Wan's Padawan. Burdened with doubts, new responsibilities, and a former slave child to take care of, a twenty-year-old Obi-Wan finds himself adopted by an army of clones. The clones take care of their own, after all—but then again, so does Obi-Wan.

Summary
Once the Kenobi floodgates are opened, they cannot be closed. Cody has apparently been keeping an itemized list of disagreements, and he is determined to tell Rex each and every one of them.
Kenobi refuses to listen to Cody’s input. Kenobi throws himself into battle with no regard for previously established battle plans. Kenobi uses the Force so recklessly and obviously that every undercover assignment is blown within the first few minutes. Kenobi is a hypocrite who berates Cody for sidestepping protocol, but flouts it himself at every opportunity.
CT-7567: bet you wish you had skywalker now
CC-2224: I wish for nothing but the cold embrace of space
Right. And he says Kenobi’s dramatic.

Let’s say Fives didn’t die. Instead, Fives was captured and put in stasis.
Kix figured out what happened and took out his own chip, but got captured before he could find someone to trust.
So by the time the Bad Batch show happens, Fives and Kix are both in stasis on the same ship, and the Bad Batch finds them on the edge of Republic space.
(I really wanted Five and Echo to find each other, that’s all. Then I decided I wanted to get rid of Palpatine too, and things spiraled from there)

Rex looks to Hunter desperately, who looks back at him just as desperately, if not moreso. Neither of them want to break the news to him. Maybe it has something to do with his story? Given this clone’s condition, there’s no way in hell he hasn’t gone through something absolutely mental. Perhaps they’re in similar boats.
Well, no clone’s ever done well with being patronized. Looks like it’s up to Fives to break the ice.
“Name’s Fives,” he says, sticking out a hand in greeting. “They’re probably bein’ cagey ‘cause I died.”

The cadets frown, a synchronous motion that might’ve made Rex laugh under other circumstances.
“Sir?” One of them asks hesitantly. “I- I don’t understand, how- how could they be Twenty-One-Zero-Four-Zero-Eight and Twenty-Seven-Fifty-Five-Fifty-Five? That’s—” he gestures at his vod, “that’s us.”
Or: as the newest additions to the 501st, Echo and Fives are desperate to prove themselves worthy, but being Forced back to their cadet selves is not quite what they had in mind.
