He’s never even considered that Eddie would assume Steve still has that kind of mindset, and as much as it hurts a little that Eddie doesn’t have more faith in him, it also hits him that he hasn’t exactly made it clear that he doesn’t think that way anymore. He’s not even sure Eddie knows about Robin, so how would have any way of knowing that he’s changed? It also hits him with a sharp pang to his chest that he’s fucked up. Bad.

It started as simply needing to hear the other man’s voice, to know he was alive when the nightmares got too bad and Jonathan was plagued with images of his enemy-turned-friend plunging to his death. The thing was he’d thought…well, Daryl didn’t know what he’d thought. It seemed so dumb now. Of course Rick hadn’t been looking at him the way he’d been looking at Rick. Of course he didn’t feel the same way. Daryl was stupid for ever thinking there could be something between them.
Nobody would want a Dixon. Especially not someone like Rick, someone who was so good. He deserved better than a dumb redneck like Daryl Dixon.
