Summary
After overhearing a fascinating story about an obscure temple tucked into some corner of Liyue Harbor, Childe had only meant to have a little fun at Zhongli's expense; he'd earned at least that much after the Osial Incident. Unfortunately for Childe, his track record at outmaneuvering Zhongli isn't exactly stellar.
There's a not-quite hysterical cadence to Childe's quiet words as he leans in closer, sweeping a hand wide to encompass shelves heavy with hundreds upon hundreds of icons and figurines depicting Rex Lapis in various forms both draconic and human, lovingly crafted and singularly, proudly well-endowed. "This is your dick temple," he whispers, for emphasis. "Just — here, in the middle of Liyue Harbor?"
"Worship comes in many forms, as a servant of the Cryo Archon is surely well aware," Zhongli says serenely, eyes narrowing in suspicion when Childe makes a small strangled sound to avoid pointing out the unfortunate innuendo. "What god would turn away a sincere offering?"
"The Tsaritsa doesn't have a dick temple," Childe mutters.

Summary
“I cannot say I am not disappointed,” the wry smile that graces the Tsaritsa’s face unnerves Zhongli. He was expecting her to not give up so easily, but he doesn’t let it show.
She exhales softly and continues, “I would like to propose an alternative then. A contract.”
“Go on,” Zhongli is not too sure if he will be amenable to it, but he can only refuse another Archon so many times before they take offense.
“A marriage between our two countries. Economic prosperity for both our nations. I am willing to supplement your forces with mine and extend them for chasm reopening efforts as well. I am sure that in return the mighty Morax will not shy away from supporting the duties of my Harbingers and Fatui if and when needed, of course.”
“What are the terms of this contract?”
“A marriage,” the Tsaritsa frowns at having to repeat herself. She then gestures towards the door, specifically at her vanguard.

For the record, Ajax was not at all opposed to being sent on missions as another Harbinger's backup. As long as he was given things to fight and the rest of the tasks were not excruciatingly boring to get through, Tartaglia would comply without issues.
The actual mission, the actual tasks, the actual experience of being the backup was not the issue here.
The issue was-...He was the only Harbinger being tasked with things like these. The only Harbinger being designated as backup. The only Harbinger being treated like a class below the rest.
(Because Tartaglia was rash and reckless and could not be trusted to keep himself safe.
Tartaglia was to be looked after like an unpredictable rabid animal that only behaved under certain conditions.Tartaglia was off.)

Or, Childe struggles to understand why the Tsaritsa insists on treating him differently from the other Harbingers, and tries to pretend like his affiliations aren't irrevocably shifting towards the mysterious god he meets in Liyue.

Summary
Zhongli is not drunk—he does not get drunk—but the room seems warmer than before and his body thrums with a certain eagerness at Childe's words. The heat around his collar intensifies further as Childe leans in, resting his hand atop Zhongli's.
"By the way," Childe drops his voice to a dramatic whisper, "there's something I’ve always wanted to do with you."
When Childe returns to Liyue for the first time since the Osial incident, a little fire-water helps him and Zhongli take the next step in their relationship.

Summary
After his little brother is bundled back to Snezhnaya, Childe makes good on his promise to the traveller and takes the first boat out of Liyue Harbor. Any sense of homecoming lasts about as long as an uncooked steak in front of Xiangling, however, when his boat sinks, grounding him back in the mainland.
It's just as well, because the next morning, a body is found in the Northland Bank.
A visit from a fellow Harbinger reveals a far more insidious plot than anything Childe could concoct with a god of the vortex and twenty minutes without supervision. The murders aren’t limited to the one Bank. They’ve been trailing down the Liyue border, getting closer and closer to the city. The Tsaritsa has a new mission for him: to figure out who, or what is targeting Fatui forces.Against his best wishes, Childe is forced to see Zhongli again at the morgue. It becomes clear that he’s going to need a guide, and Childe resolves to quash his pride, and their differences to request his help to navigate Liyue and solve the case.
