Summary
Before Felix could remove his headphones, he heard it. Heavy, borderline panicked breaths. Felix realized that it must be Hollander. His mic was not turned off when he left the interview. Footsteps. And then a door opening and closing. They had filmed the interview that morning at the offices of the Irina Foundation. It sounded like maybe he had gone into his office.
“Hey, what is it? What is wrong?” Another voice. Unmistakable anywhere. Even if Felix hadn’t spent weeks now listening to it, he would still have recognized Ilya Rozanov’s voice.
–
What if the filmmaker making the documentary about Hollander and Rozanov discovered the truth about their relationship. So he approaches Shane and Ilya about filming them over the course of the 2020/2021 season to create an honest documentary that tells the true story of their lives. Canon-divergent AU set during The Long Game.

Summary
Ilya looks up at the black night sky and mutters something in Russian. “You want to pay me fifty Canadian dollars to fuck you?”
Or: Shane runs into Ilya on a street corner the night before the Prospect Cup and makes some assumptions. (Because every fandom needs a mistaken-for-hooker fic).

Summary
“What -“ Ilya started, his voice shaky and wet with blood. The movement made Shane’s hand slip, another gush of blood spurting across his fingertips.
“Shut up,” Shane bit in return, fraught. “Shut the fuck up.”
Or: At the Montreal - Boston game in April 2017, it is Ilya who is injured instead of Shane.

Summary
Shane was twelve when hockey scouts started showing up to his games. He was barely fifteen when a check went horribly wrong, fucked his knee to hell and gave him a grade III concussion. During rehab he found swimming, and he was seventeen when he went to the Olympics as a relay-only swimmer who only swam the prelims.
He’s 24 and working for his mom’s sports PR company when he meets Ilya Fucking Rozanov.
May contain: Shane Hollander navigating what it means to be mostly normal when your whole childhood was about preparing you for greatness. Shane Hollander attempting to flirt. Possibly less than 100% accurate descriptions of what a sports PR agent does.

Summary
Scent patches were mandatory for anyone participating in World Junior's, but a lot of the Russian guys Shane saw in the hotel or around the rink had them loosely attached to their necks or not quite centered over their scent gland. Shane had been on his way to his parents' car when the wind shifted, and he smelled that Rozanov, leaning against the wall and not-at-all-surreptitiously fishing a carton of cigarettes out of his pocket, must have been one of them.
