“I tried so hard to get you to love me. You just didn’t care.” He’s almost shouting now, and he knows he’s going to disturb Jee, but he can’t bring himself to calm down. His blood is pounding through his head, boiling under his skin.
“We were going through something, Evan. It was a traumatic time for us,” his mother pleads — begs, almost. Buck scoffs.
“It’s an excuse, Mom!” he yells, watching her face become emotionless at the outburst. “So many parents lose kids, but they don’t treat their other kids like shit. I know you lost Daniel, but you didn’t lose me. I was still there. You left me.”

Summary
“Hey buddy. You wanna scooch up a little there so I can sit down?” Impulse keeps his voice to a whisper, not wanting to startle him too much. He watches Mumbo’s face as the words register and he realises that Impulse is, actually, there. He looks panicked for a second, before settling on a face that Impulse can only place as exhausted. He shuffles over and sits up, leaning back against the headboard with his duvet still wrapped around him. Impulse sits on the bed and offers an arm up so Mumbo can fall into his side.
He doesn’t hesitate to take the chance, leaning most of his body weight against him. His chest shudders with a sob he tries to keep back. Impulse wraps both arms around him, running one hand through the back of his hair. He’s not sure what to say, but he doesn’t know if Mumbo needs him to say anything. He hopes that just being here will be enough for the moment.

Bobby’s breath catches in his throat for a moment, and he screws his eyes shut tight against the way they sting. They would find him. They would.
“Yeah, I know.” He repeats brokenly.

Day Five of Buck and Bobby Week
“Hm,” Bobby hums innocently, but Buck knows that hum, and it has him straightening up warily. “I thought you were having dinner with Maddie tonight.” He continues conversationally, but his eyes are watching Buck intently. “Coming up with a game plan for the next dinner with your parents?”
And, oh. They’re teaming up. This is an ambush.
“Plans fell through.” Buck replies with a tight smile and a small shrug.
“That’s a shame.” Athena notes, taking a sip of wine. “Something came up?”
Taking a deep breath, Buck forces himself to smile again. “Yeah, something like that.”

After finding Daniel's photo in Maddie's baby box, Buck finds himself at Bobby and Athena's.

Summary
It felt like it took them forever, but Bobby's phone showed that they'd been connected for thirty-two minutes and eighteen seconds by the time they were pulling up in front of a bench that had a miserably wet figure huddled on it.
He jumped out as soon as the car slowed to park at the curb, drops of rain hitting his skin like frozen pinpricks and exacerbating the concern he’d been trying to control.
“Bobby, the umbrella –” Athena called after him, exasperated. “You can’t help if you also get soaked.”
He cursed internally but turned to grab the umbrella. He didn’t care so much about himself, but the quicker that Buck was shielded from the freezing sheet of rain bearing down on them the better.

Or, Buck's post-lightning strike run doesn’t go as planned. Cue protective Bobby and a self-indulgent amount of fluff.

Everything stops.
Bobby doesn't know if it's concern or shock that ends up showing on his face but Buck sees it and immediately back pedals.
"No, not like that," he immediately insists.
Which still isn't very comforting.
"Then how exactly?" Bobby prods.
When Buck goes to Bobby with his complaints about Gerrard, Buck confesses to something bigger going on.
AKA a coda to s08e04 No Place Like Home in which Buck says it's "not like that" but in this story, it is like that.
