Summary
I had a limited number of my humans to choose from for this. The only ones of my humans available in this particular instance were Mensah, Arada, and Gurathin. Of the options, I selected the one who would never, ever want to talk to me about it later.
I enabled my "act like a human" code in full as I descended on Gurathin. The only warning I gave him was an abrupt Look natural in our private feed before I -- ugh -- put my arm very suddenly around his shoulders.

Summary
From what I understand, the human brain is basically an electrical meatball. A very sophisticated meatball, to be sure, but still – organic.
That organic human neural tissue – unless very carefully cultivated under very specific laboratory parameters – doesn’t always play nicely with the non-organic bits. And even then, see example: me.
That wasn’t even including the fact that Gurathin had received his augments in the Corporation Rim and company equipment – see again: me – wasn’t exactly premium quality.
UPDATE 10/20/25: minor edits to chapter two

Summary
But it was after the garden party that the cough seemed to stick to Jinshi like glue; as the season passed and Princess Lingli grew, so did his cough. Gossip raced through the court like wildfire, that Jinshi was not just coughing. It was tuhua, they whispered over the laundry basins and the drying-lines, tuhua that was murmured in the gardens, tuhua when the ambassadors arrived and the elegant eunuch was nowhere to be found (though Maomao knew it was not tuhua that kept him away then, though few would believe what had).
She did catch him in the act, only once, face hidden behind his sleeve. There were no petals, no buds, no whole-blooming flowers in his wake. It was a long-running cold, perhaps an allergy.
That was all.
