    The journey north takes forever.

    It's the dead of winter and the roads are muddy. The taverns and houses they stay in as they travel are busy and loud and Jason locks himself in his rooms with only his books and the one attendant he was allowed. A beta of his darling brother's choosing.

    Wallace is pleasant enough company for a spy. He talks enough to fill the gaps in Jason's end of any "conversation" himself and doesn't seem to mind when Jason only half listens.

    The closer they get to their destination, the more Jason's nerves get twisted up. The more time he has to think, to realize just exactly to whom Dick sold him off.

    Dick Grayson dies in Damian's arms. And it's all his fault. He killed his brother. He wasn't enough, never enough. But there's a hope. If Damian comes back to the League of Shadows, if he obeys and does his duty as heir, if he kills enough people, if he becomes more and more of who his Grandfather wants him to be, then maybe, just maybe, his brother can return to him. And once he does... well, kidnapping the rest of his family with Dick to give them the life they deserve is just a perfectly reasonable consequence.

    Infiltrating systems had been part of Tim’s life full-time in recent years, but he wasn’t stupid enough to think this wouldn’t be different from that. Hacking into networks, bypassing firewalls, stealing data… those were all things he could do from the safety of his room, his fingers flying across a keyboard while sipping on lukewarm coffee.

    But this?

    This was asking for a slow death before he ever made it to sixteen.

He had no other choice.

    Things might get more complicated when both sides get attached, and Tim finds himself starting to love this sick, distorted family and realizing they could love him back.

    Even the strongest of men break and crumble. Bruce has cracked and faltered many times, all because of his children. His children who he loves so dearly, who seem to be the single reason for his gray hairs and the stubborn wrinkles budding on his face that he refuses to fix just yet (he’s still a young-ish man after all); his children who are all so brave and so strong despite everything life has thrown at them; his children who he’ll never quite understand. Yes, he’s cracked and faltered for his children, his family, but never has he broken down.

    That is, until he had to bury an empty coffin in place of his son.

    OR:
    Jason Todd was captured and tortured by the Joker for months, before he was finally killed and it completely tore everyone apart. Bruce and the rest of the batfamily would very much like to grieve his loss, but it seems that rumours of Jason's death were greatly exaggerated.

    Arkham Knight canon divergence where Jason gets rescued and goes through the recovery arc he and the family deserved :D
