However, as bad and annoying as all that is, there’s still Tony. Tony who invites him over for dinner every week, Tony who sends him texts and calls him a lot, and Tony who says his door is always open. Peter doesn’t understand why he does that, because there’s Peter who always comes up with a new excuse to not show up, Peter who doesn’t respond, or occasionally sends an ‘ok’ when something needs an answer, and Peter who has never once showed up at his door after a particularly hard patrol. No matter how much he stares at news articles for updates on Tony’s condition, he can’t get past the wall of guilt that is separating him. If he walks in that house, all he will be able to see is Tony who is willing to die for Peter, and almost has. Maybe if he distances himself enough, Tony will see straight and won't risk his life for Peter. Maybe if he distances himself enough, Peter will stop seeing Tony die in his dreams each night.
