It's been a slow day. A slow month, if he's honest. Nobody seems to have the money anymore for things as frivolous as new piercings and tattoos. So when the shop's Instagram page gets a message from a potential customer, Barty replies.
Because he's an idiot, he sends the wrong "consent" form.
And because he's horny and bored, he indulges in a slight bit of... unprofessionalism.

While working on solving the issue of Grace slowly dying of starvation, malnutrition, and a host of other issues, the Eridians discover the human internet (largely Wikipedia) and fall down a rabbit hole of trying to figure out everything they can about the needs of their squishy alien savior. While most of their focus is on the food issue, another link catches their (metaphorical) eyes.
"Touch starvation, also known as touch deprivation or skin hunger, is the physiological need by humans and other species for physical contact with their own species or other living beings."
No one is happy about this.

She retraces a plane crash and a sick uncle and a forbidden pregnancy and cigar burns on her arm, but her mind gets stuck on the last time she came to the fire escape, emptier than ever before, and nothing will ever be more painful than the thought of a life in which she isn’t his mother.
She tells him no.
“The Fates haven’t been kind to you,” he points out.
“But they gave me you,” Sally says. “And you’re worth it in every universe.”

Bookmarker's Notes
The way I read this on my period and sobbed at 1:28 AM thinking about parallel universes and fireplaces. I feel physically sick, this is the most poetic piece of literature I have ever absorbed and it makes me want to be more like Sally, more like Percy, more like Annabeth. Laughing through the pain, finding a beacon of hope when all is lost. This is the worst pain I have been in all day, and this morning the cramps were so bad I almost went to the HOSPITAL. I FEEL SICK. The parallels of the fire escape, fireplaces and fire bringing warmth and comfort to the former lover and son of the sea, SALLY KNOWING SHE WAS ABOUT TO DIE AND STILL CHOOSING TO STAY ASLEEP TO SEE HER CHILDREN ONE LAST TIME. I did NOT EXPECT TO FEEL THIS WAY. I want to kiss the author and punch them at the same time cause I feel so hurt. I need to tell my parents that I love them right now, hug them like Percy and Estelle did. The fact that the last version of Percy that Sally saw was one who hadn’t been through the horrors of trauma yet, who was still young enough to be a kid like she prayed for him to be. The portrayal of grief, regret and trauma is so raw, so real, so complex and shifting and rough around the edges, like the author took a slice of the human experience to share with us all. I need to read this again and dissect it for literary devices and metaphorical poetry because I can tell I won’t be the same after reading this. I hope the evil mean beautiful author gets to see bookmark notes and chuckles at this one. I NEED TO TELL MY PARENTS I LOVE THEM.
