It was common knowledge that, when a pup was going through their presentation, their parents should be there otherwise it could deeply wound the pup. Be it alpha, omega or beta, the parent was necessary to be there in the moment, comforting and scenting them. In some cases, the pups didn’t leave their parent’s side for days or weeks depending on how strong it was.
Presentations were painful regardless of their secondary gender, the pups could die if they weren’t with their main parent during these moments, without their comfort. So, when Aegon started presenting, and by extension, triggered Aemond's presentation, the latter having lost his eye claiming Vhagar as his dragon and was being questioned upon calling his nephews “bastards”. Everyone thought Alicent Hightower was going to tend her children, she was their mother, and as an omega it was likely she would be their main parent, even so both the pups were sobbing painfully, calling their mother over and over, even if it was said in High Valyrian.
They were very much mistaken.
