The room was silent, save for the intermittent humming of the rig behind, and flickering fluorescent lights above. Connor couldn’t respond. And even if he was physically able to… he still couldn’t. Not about that particular comment. It went against orders he had been given. The rules. Dire consequences should he go astray.
“You get wheeled in here every couple weeks the past five months, practically torn to shreds. No explanation, just a blank envelope with a wad of cash. Nothing traceable either. Believe me, I tried.” Gavin’s voice took on a note of bitterness. He didn’t often bring this topic up, but as Connor had noted earlier, the man seemed more on edge today. The android wondered why that was.
“You don’t even care, do you?”

Connor shivered, huddling against his brother's side. He wished he had a built in heater like he did, or else he wouldn’t be freezing, lost from the rest of the DPD, in nothing but his jeans, beanie, and white shirt.
It was supposed to be a cool 40 degrees, nothing his internal temperature regulator couldn’t handle. 30 is when it struggles, and finally 20 is when he has to wear a coat for him to stay warm.
Now it was 5 and a flurry of snow danced all around them.

“He’s a liar!” Connor yelled. He fussed with his breastplate before ripping it off, throwing it against the wall. “He’s a liar!”
“Connor, calm the fuck down,” Hank ordered. He grabbed Connor by the shoulders and looked him in the eye. “Get a hold of yourself. You can't do this. If you let your emotions get out of control, you’re gonna out yourself on accident with your magic, okay?”
Connor was breathing hard, the rage coursing through his veins. His skin was flushed blue, and his hands trembled with suppressed frustration. In a moment, Connor's anger wilted. He let out a distressed sound and put a hand up to his eyes, hiding them as tears started to line his eyelids.
“It’s okay,” Hank said, wrapping his arms around the tiefling.
“I don’t want to go back,” Connor hiccuped.
