“What do I—” Agatha starts, her voice suddenly strained. “Do I have to do anything?”
“Nope! You are free to do as you see fit,” she answers cheerily.
“As I see fit?” Agatha questions, her heart pounding.
“With the estate,” the young assistant says, her voice still high and positive. Agatha isn’t sure if it’s real, or a figment of her own insane imagination, but she swears she hears Christmas music start up in the background.

Summary
Eddie slides onto one of the stools, too tired to stand anymore. He drops his head into his hands, the smell of lemons mixing with the scent of Buck’s cooking, various spices and meats mingling together in a strange dance that reminds him of standing in the middle of a food court.
“I’m here because you called me,” he says, thinking again of the moment after Buck had hung up, when Eddie dropped his phone to the ground and wondered what he was supposed to do next. In all honestly, he isn’t in Los Angeles because Buck called him. He’s in Los Angeles because Bobby is dead and nothing makes sense, but he finds himself placing the blame on Buck anyway.
“I didn’t ask you to come,” Buck shoots back. Eddie recognizes the anger on his tongue. It is fearful.
Eddie scoffs, lifts his head. His fingers flex against the table. They ache to reach out, to touch. Buck doesn’t look at him.

Buck calls Eddie after the events of 8x15. Eddie books the first flight home and they attempt, together, to not drown.

Dr. Amelia Shepherd,
Your presence is requested by Dr. David Hamilton at the Mayo Clinic Annual New Year’s Eve Gala.
“Invitation and name?”“Dr. Shepherd.” She smiles, handing him her invitation. She gets a brochure back and glances at the front. A beautiful painting of the Mayo Clinic with its mission printed below.
The man skims over the list in his hand before looking up at her again. “You’ll be at table 7.
She thanks him, pushes open one of the elaborately carved doors and steps inside, the air in her lungs literally disappearing. The venue is gorgeous. Her eyes scan the room for anyone she knows.
And then she sees them.

Kai dips her back slightly and captures her lips with a surprising amount of force and need, layered with the gentleness and care she expected. She hears the cheers and clinking of glasses in the front of the room that signifies the start of a new year but the noise quickly fades away, replaced by her own rapid heartbeat and she swears that she can hear Kai’s too.

“Did I stutter?” Her voice is ice, and it makes even those in the gallery flinch.

“First of all” Amelia steps closer to them. “I’m a really incredible surgeon, so he’ll be great. Second” She unclips her pager and waves it around in the air. “We have this. Third.” She steps even closer, and Kai’s heart jumps. “I’m asking you to stay.”

Their hand reaches up to brush the hair out of her face and suddenly every part of her body is on fire.
The way their hand is tangled in her hair and the way they're so incredibly close to her. For a moment, she doesn't breathe. She just stares at them, trying to find something to say, and eventually, she decides on their typical banter, a safe choice.
“So when you fail, you grow pineapple. When you succeed, you sweep women off their feet?”
