Summary
It was supposed to be a routine call.
Instead, a suspect turns a quiet shift into every officer's worst nightmare. With her radio accidentally left transmitting, Celina Juarez's desperate cries for help echo across the LAPD airwaves, leaving every responding unit powerless to do anything but race toward her.
John Nolan hears enough to know one thing: his rookie needs him.
The attack leaves scars no one can see, and while the department focuses on investigations, evidence, and arrests, John focuses on Celina. Hospital visits become late-night conversations. Case files become therapy appointments. Bad days become reminders that healing isn't measured in weeks or months.
They're not related by blood. They never will be.
But somewhere between the silence, the setbacks, and the promise that she will never have to face another shift alone, John stops thinking of Celina as just his rookie—and starts loving her like the daughter he never knew he needed.
A story about surviving the unimaginable, learning to heal, and discovering that family isn't always the one you're born into—sometimes it's the one that refuses to let you face the darkness alone.

Tamara tries her best to be understanding while focusing on helping Lucy... until she realizes that Chris isn't being passive because he doesn't know what to do. Instead, he is deliberately refusing to get Lucy the one thing she is asking for – Tim – because he is too jealous of his girlfriend's former training officer.

Summary
A study of Vanessa and Lucy's relationship after the abduction told from Vanessa's point of view...
Chenford Week 2026
Prompt: outsider POV
---The meaning was clear: You allowed this.
Vanessa didn’t allow anything. Lucy did what she wanted, and in the end all her pushing only pushed her away. However, in her mother’s view it’s clear who’s to blame here, and it’s not her granddaughter because: Parents guide their children.
And Vanessa didn’t.
“Call her,” she said as she indicated for Vanessa to refill her tea, and she did, later in the car, because it is hard to tell her mother no. But the call went straight to voicemail, and she left it at that; she didn’t know what to say anyway. She later found out second-hand how Lucy was doing—from her sister and, ironically, her mother.
Now she can’t call, even though she did, irrationally, right after hanging up, the words ping-ponging around in her brain: “Your daughter has gone missing. It’s very likely she and her boyfriend have been abducted.”
