The couple finally stopped before him. The woman’s drunken gaze swept over his muscular frame, the scars on his skin, the dark gray of his complexion. "Hmm, a fishman," she mused, poking him with the tip of her riding crop. "Could fetch a good price. They're all the rage with the nobles these days." The man, his eyes narrowed, held the gun to Kreacher’s head. Kreacher didn't flinch. He simply stared into the cold, empty abyss of the weapon's barrel, his entire being a silent prayer.
The tension stretched, a taut wire about to snap. Then, to Kreacher's silent relief, the man lowered the gun. "Yeah," he grunted, "He'll sell." Kreacher didn't dare breathe, but he knew he wasn't safe yet. The couple moved on, and a new form of terror washed over him as he saw who was next.
