They've walked halfway across the bridge when Lomedy turns on his heel to face him, making Flame freeze in place. "Dude, you need to stop doing that."
"What am I doing?" Flame asks immediately, leaving no room for Lomedy to doubt his innocence.
But Lomedy pouts, eyebrows furrowed, and it's an expression Flame hates seeing on his best friend's face, because it's clear that Lomedy sees right through his fake cluelessness.
"You know what. You think I don't notice you following me around all day?"
In the days following the Mist, Lomedy stays. Despite the relief this has brought Flame, his mind doesn't stop racing.

"You're staying?"
"Yes." Avery answers with no hesitation.
"You won't leave?"
"No."
Derek's expression softens. Avery could see it in his eyes behind the shadow of his gold helmet.
Then, without warning, Derek steps forward and pulls Avery into a hug.
Avery stiffens instantly at the sudden contact, his cheek brushing gently against the cold surface of Derek's armor. His hands awkwardly remained on his sides— clueless on where to put them. He couldn't exactly relax under his embrace. Not when he didn't know what this hug actually meant.
"What's in your inventory?" Derek asks.
Avery is taken aback once more. "What?"
"What's in your inventory?"
And that's all it takes. A moment of distraction— and a decisive motion as he shoved Avery backward.
From then, Avery's cry echoed. "Wait!"
That was all that Derek remembered before everything went black. Or at least, that was the only part that truly mattered.
Or
Derek survives but now has to live with an ancient god within him.
It goes precisely the way it shouldn't.
