“Black’s been in love with you since he was sixteen. Use it.”
    Remus nearly dropped his mug.
“That’s absurd,” he said at last.
    “No,” Moody said. “It’s useful.”

In an effort to stop Sirius Black from arguing with every single Order meeting, Moody weaponizes the fact that Sirius is still catastrophically in love with Remus Lupin.
Remus thinks the entire plan is ridiculous.
    Unfortunately, it works.

Before Remus could formulate a response, Moody’s magical eye appeared around the kitchen doorway.
It landed directly on the jacket.
    Then on Remus’s face.
The corner of Moody’s mouth twitched upward beneath his scars.
    Oh, absolutely not.
Remus pointed a warning finger at him immediately.
“Don’t.”
    Moody ignored him completely.
    “Excellent tactical choice.”
“It was the first thing I found.”
    “Aye.”
    “It was.”
    “Aye.”
Remus hated everyone in this house.

Remus stared at Sirius in disbelief.
    No.
No, this could not actually be happening.
    But it kept happening.
Every single time Remus spoke, Sirius folded immediately.

Once, during an argument between Molly and Mundungus, Remus absently pushed the sleeves up his forearms.
Sirius visibly forgot what conversation he was in.
    “Black?”
Moody’s voice cut sharply through the room.
    Sirius blinked hard.
“What?”
    “You alive there?”
Tonks made a strangled sound into her tea.
Remus wanted the floorboards to open beneath him.
Because now he was noticing things too.
Things he had spent years trying not to notice.

“Merlin, I tried. Azkaban would’ve been
easier if I could’ve stopped loving you.”

“You know,” Sirius murmured, “for the record…”
    “Hm?”
“I wasn’t agreeing with you because you distracted me.”
    Remus lifted his head slightly.
“No?”
“No.” Sirius brushed his thumb along Remus’s side through the jacket. “I agreed because every time you spoke, all I could think was ‘there’s my person.’”

Which only made Tonks point aggressively between them like she’d uncovered state secrets.
    “LOOK AT THEM.”
“Please stop looking at us,” Remus begged weakly.

    ——

Sirius could argue with Moody for three hours straight out of pure stubbornness.
He could out-yell Molly, out-snark Snape, and outlast Kingsley on sheer bloody-minded principle alone.
    But Remus—
Remus could say Sirius in that quiet voice and Sirius’s entire nervous system apparently went yes, darling, anything you want.
    Mortifying.

“Fuck you.” Remus sped up his steps.

“Dare you,” Sirius said casually, and Remus rolled his eyes.

    “Joke’s old.”

The oldest in the book, repeated time after time since they were fifteen and the thought of that actually happening was just too hilarious to contemplate. It wasn’t even a little bit funny now, not when it danced on the periphery of a truth neither of them was brave enough to speak out loud.

“Ouch. James said you were on one. Didn’t quite realise he meant on the level of post-full moon wallowing.”
“Fuck you.” Remus sped up his steps.

“So we just don’t want whatever is going on between you two to sour the mood or anything.”
“Whatever is going on between us?” Remus echoed. “There isn’t anything going on between us.”
James sighed, chucking the quill down on top of the paper. “You know what I mean—” He waved his hand about in the air.

    “Good morning to you, too.”
    “I repeat, fuck off.”
There was a deep chuckle and the dip of the mattress as Sirius shifted across the bed, followed by the weight of him across Remus’s stomach—Merlin fucking Christ, Sirius was straddling him, thighs open around his hips and precariously close to where Remus’ dick had taken a sudden interest in the press of Sirius’ body in its vicinity.

“You’re unfairly fit, you know, for a guy who wears cardigans.” Sirius leant forward slightly. His shirt slipped further off his left shoulder as a finger lifted up and rested lightly on the tip of a faded slash across Remus’ skin. “Especially with these.”

“The hem’s too long, you’ll be dragging it all over the floor.” He tutted and bent down to the floor to fold up the bottom of Remus’ trousers.
Remus blinked, and he wasn’t sure what came over him. It was one of those involuntary reactions, his tongue moving in his mouth before he could stop himself.
He looked down at Sirius on his knees before him, and said, “Dare you.”
    Sirius stilled.
“Here you go.” Peter bustled back in, holding out the clothes, almost stumbling straight over Sirius. “Merlin, what are you doing down there?”
“Nothing,” Sirius mumbled, trying to stand back up but only managing to knock his elbows against the sides of the cubicle. His cheeks were pink, and Remus felt giddy. Fuck—had he stunned Sirius? These moments where he had the upper hand were few and far between.

“Shame we’re never nice to each other.”
James grinned slyly. “You’re nice to Moony.”
He’s not nice, Remus wanted to protest. He’s a torment—a living, breathing torture device. Instead, he snorted into his pint.

“You know,” said a low voice at his side. “I think helping Lily out like that means you might have claimed the official bridesmaid title.” …
Remus rolled his eyes. “Right. Does that mean you’re going to try to shag me, then?”
“When aren’t I trying to shag you?” Sirius said,

There was a war looming. And yet still there was Remus Lupin and Sirius Black, dancing about each other, a dog and a wolf forever playing a perpetual game of chicken.

“Excuse the state of it, think I sat on it.” He held it out towards Remus with a flourish. “Consider this me bringing you flowers.”
“Wow,” said Remus drily, taking the offering and twirling it in his fingers. “A rose flattened by Sirius Black’s arse. Aren’t I the lucky one?”
“You said you want flowers before a bloke tries it on with you.”
Remus stilled, and a flush of annoyance saw him almost crumple the flower in his fist. “Merlin, Sirius, you’re really laying it on thick. Knock it off, will you? I can't be arsed with your games tonight.”
    “Maybe I’m not playing.” …
    “Alright,” Remus said.
Sirius huffed out a laugh, shaking his head. “Now who’s messing?” He looked at him, expression the most open and vulnerable Remus had probably ever seen. “Moony. Don’t do this to me if you’re not actually serious because I really can’t take the joke, not when—”
Remus grabbed Sirius by the waist, pulled him close, and kissed him.

There was an excited holler as James and Lily danced past them, and Sirius pulled back. “Not here,” he said, voice rough at the edges. “I don’t want to share this with them.”
The Apparition back to Remus’ flat was hurried, as was the continued kissing, pushed up against the door of Remus’ tiny bedroom.

“I really fucking love you, you know,” Sirius said earnestly.
Remus slid inside, and almost lost it at the first feel of Sirius gripped tightly around him. He stilled, buried deep, eyes closing to try and get some sort of semblance of control back. “I know,” he gasped. “I know.” …
Remus lay his head on Sirius’ chest. “I love you too, by the way.”
“I know.” Sirius chuckled, like it wasn’t very fucking obvious

There was the bang of a door downstairs, of the sound of someone’s footsteps moving about. “You two up there?”
    Peter.
Sirius threw his head back and groaned up at the ceiling. “Really? They couldn’t give us one night?”
“Are you naked?” James’ voice yelled out, and there was a giggle as Lily tried to shush him. “I’m not coming up if I might see your dicks.”
“Then don’t come up,” Sirius shouted back.

    Bookmarker's Notes

"I'd been in love with you for… Shit, I don't know, four years at that point?" Remus froze, hands still around his mug and eyes on Sirius, and Sirius gave him a sad smile before he added, "You broke my heart when you fucked out of my life without explanation after that."...
"Sirius… I had no idea." Remus's voice was strained and there was a tremble to it that wasn't there ten minutes earlier, before they dove into topics that were bound to open some wounds that hadn't quite healed correctly. Sirius sighed and lifted his coffee again.
"Yeah, well, you didn't stick around to find out either."

"So, what?" … "You just thought you'd sweep in from the other side of fucking Europe and see if you still had a chance?"
    "Do I?"
Sirius's eyes snapped back to Remus in bewilderment, the pure absurdity of the question making him gape. He blinked. "What?"
Remus hadn't looked away from him, still watching Sirius intently but now, there was something else in his eyes. Determination, maybe. Bravery. Like he'd been biding his time, waiting for Sirius's reaction, and now he'd suddenly been given the green light. He didn't look quite as scared anymore and there was a pull at his lips.
"I said it didn't stop, Sirius. I wasn't talking about the pain."

"So, I'm in love with you and you're in love with me. It's been mutual for years. Whatever should we do about this dilemma?" …
    "I hate you."
    "No, sweetheart, you really don't."
And oh, that. Sirius's breath hitched, blood rushing in his ears and burning his cheeks. If he thought reading the words were bad, it was nothingcompared to hearing Remus say them again.

"You seem tense," he said and slid the book back in its place on the shelf. "Do you want me to leave?"
"No!" Sirius rushed out and took a step forward in a brush of panic, but he caught himself and swallowed. "No, sorry, please don't- Don't leave. Please." …
"I'm not going back to Greece," he said without a breath of hesitation and Sirius froze, eyes searching Remus's face. He didn't know how Remus had managed to find the reason for all of his doubt and uncertainty so quickly but the reassurance settled deep in Sirius's stomach and when he spoke, his voice came out weaker than he wanted it to.
    "No?"
Remus gave him a small smile and shook his head. "No, I'm not. I'm staying in London."

"I'm unclear on what you're proposing here, Lupin. Do you want us to go back to what we used to be? Friends? To pretend that I don't catch you staring when I take my shirt off?" As he spoke, Sirius leaned closer to let his lips brush against Remus's cheekbone with every word, spurred on by Remus's hands tugging impatiently on his clothes. "Do you want me to act like I haven't been going fucking mad about your freckles and how badly I want to see if they cover your entire body?" …
"No, fuck that, never again. You're mine now," he snapped, pushing Sirius's shirt further up his back.

Remus tightened his grip around Sirius's waist and settled his other arm underneath his ass, keeping him in a tight hold when he stood up and lifted Sirius with him. Sirius made a squeal of surprise and squeezed his legs around Remus's hips to hold himself in place, arms wrapped around his neck.
"Bedroom's that way?" Remus asked with a jerk of his head towards the door Sirius had pointed out earlier, and Sirius nodded.
"Yes. Fuck, you have no idea how hot this is."

"You're not going to fuck me and disappear again, are you?" he asked quickly, the words rushed out in the air between them, and Remus's eyes widened.
"No, absolutely not," he said and Sirius nodded.
    "Just checking."
Remus didn't say anything about the outburst but there was a frown on his face and worry in his eyes… but Sirius gently moved Remus's hand off him and pressed a quick kiss to the wrinkle between his eyebrows before he slid down to settle against the mattress between Remus's knees.

His hand was fumbling for something to hold on to on the mattress, blunt nails dragging over Sirius's back and Sirius sighed happily when he flicked his tongue over one of Remus's nipples.
"You can grab my hair, you know," Sirius murmured, dragging his teeth and tongue further down on Remus's chest. "Or you know, pull it. Fuck my throat."
The sound that came from deep in Remus's chest was downright pornographic and when Sirius eased down far enough to press his tongue against the wet patch at the front of Remus's underwear, a hand immediately wound into his hair.
