Summary
The entire act was strange without the justifying setting of the royal chambers or rough woodland surrounds. There was no lumpy chainmail between them while they lay together. There was no murmur of lowered voices from the guards just outside the door, eavesdropping on the happenings of the prince’s chambers to stave off their boredom. It was just the two of them, alone with each other and with all the time in the world.
Arthur cleared his throat. “Camelot is in terrible peril.”

“Then— can Lancelot offer my life? On my behalf?” Merlin asked, hesitant, looking to the dragon - apparently, Lancelot himself was not permitted a say in this. The dragon glanced at him once, piercing, contracted pupils penetrating into his very substance. Rather irksomely; he smirked at Lancelot.
“Yes. Sir Lancelot could offer your life,” he replied. Too knowingly.
With Arthur dying and Merlin gravely wounded after their journey to slay the Questing Beast, it rests on (Sir) Lancelot to save the day instead. He travels to the Isle of the Blessed, resolved in his duty - but once there is confronted with a familiar face.

Summary
Most everyone Merlin knew warned him that nothing good would ever come of his little (though astonishingly requited) crush on the Lady Morgana. Merlin was, as of now, finding himself in agreement, as she made her dramatic return to Camelot one year after Merlin had attempted to kill her with hemlock. But when Merlin discovers the child, his child, he can say at least one very good thing, as well many more exceedingly ridiculous and complicated things, certainly had come of it.
Featuring pervasive passive aggression and a general sense of melancholy, an extended and distinctly non peaceful political process to legalising magic, a not entirely willing family trip to Ealdor, and some foreign diplomatic negotiations somewhat lacking in diplomacy.

It could certainly be described as a rather bad week, between Morgana's kidnapping, and a dragon all but levelling the lower town and making a good effort on the upper, not to mention Merlin's subsequent arrest. Arthur's new orders; to leave Merlin behind in order to meet with the not-so-last dragonlord and attempt a negotiation with his manservant's life as the lure, only feels to be the natural continuation for the entirely unwelcome developments.
