    “Yeah. Nothing beats cuddles, if you ask me,” Grace said, trying to lighten the mood.

    Simon’s frown only deepened. “I wouldn’t really know.”

    Grace’s smile dropped. He fidgeted with his glasses, an idea already forming, but no. No, that’s a lot to ask. Too much. They’re barely friends. More like roommates of pure circumstance who mostly get along.

    But what if…?

    “Would you…” Grace started. Stopped. Tried again. “This is like, totally no pressure, and you can say no. But, uh, if you wanted to, we could, um—”

    “Spit it out, man,” Simon said, not unkindly, if a little annoyed.

    “Wouldyouwanttotrycuddlingwithme?”

    Simon blinked. “What?”

    Or... against all the odds, Simon finds himself in Ryland Grace's universe. This is how they find home.

    "Something else?" Adrian turns their body in curiosity. They consider the reality of meeting another lifeform, of making first contact with an alien species. For what has to be the 1,000th time, Adrian thinks of their mate. ♪♫♪♫ would love to be here, clamoring for the opportunity to connect with intelligent life. They felt their vents flare with the weight of their grief.

    "Yes, something else," their coworker, ♪♪♪, turns to their radio and twists a few knobs and adjustments until a strange voice spills out into the open air.

    "Hǝllo¿ Ԁlǝɐsǝ¿ ∀ʌǝ dlǝɐsǝ I ƃoʇ ʇɥǝ qox' ʎon dɹoɯᴉsǝp' ʎon dɹoɯᴉsǝp ᴉp qǝ ɟɹǝǝ˙ I pᴉp ǝʌǝɹʎʇɥᴉuƃ ʎon ɐsʞǝp˙ Ԁlǝɐsǝ' qɹᴉuƃ ɯǝ nd˙" it cried out desperately, and despite the fact Adrian couldn't quite understand what it was saying, their fear and desperation transcended language and species.

    "Oh," Adrian finds themself becoming very, very still.

    After waiting for the return of their mate for so many years, Adrian stumbles upon something strange. A rouge moon of blood a rather pathetic creature beneath its waves.

    “Yes. Grace is like Rocky pet. Everything Grace does is cute cute cute. Grace not need prove anything. Grace not need be worthy. Grace just need keep being cute. Rocky take care of Grace. Rocky responsible pet owner.”

    Grace’s throat was suddenly dry.

    A series of short fics exploring Grace and Rocky's friendship, among other things. (Each chapter is its own story; I just wanted to have them all in one place.)

    Chapter 1: Rocky thinks humans are equally disgusting and cute. Somehow, through it all, Grace reminds him of home.
    Chapter 2: Rocky can pick Grace up easily, and Rocky thinks it is very funny. Rocky and Grace tease each other.
    Chapter 3: Eridians bring Grace their babies for him to see, and Grace learns about Eridian culture/religion. Grace is also bad at taking compliments.
    Chapter 4: Rocky makes Grace celebration jewelry. Later, Grace gets a similar gift from Adrian.
    Chapter 5: Grace and Rocky tease each other, and Rocky is introduced to the idea of throwing things at your friends. He decides that humans are odd, but maybe aren't all that bad.
    Chapter 6: Grace tries to convince Rocky to swim, but Eridians don’t typically like deep water because they are heavy and will sink/drown. Grace learns about some Eridian mythology.
    Chapter 7: Grace talks about the lack of support teachers have on Earth. Rocky is confused by this.
