This is wrong, this is so wrong, he has no idea what’s even happening right now– some part of Matt attempts to replay these thoughts like a mantra, louder and louder in his mind, throwing them out like a spike strip to stop the getaway car of this, his deepest, darkest, longest-held desire. Something very strange had happened to his body as soon as they crossed the threshold of the front entrance, worse than vertigo, more like a diver coming up for air too quickly, reeling with a bad case of the bends. In a different context, he thinks that Jay would have found that really funny.
