Unthinkingly, Mielle steps forward. Emma’s touch leaves her back.
Aria’s hand is warm as she clasps it with both hands. A little grimey, yes, but warm.
“It’s nice to meet you too,” Mielle says, and this time, a smile a bit more genuine than her previous one graces her face. “Aria!”
Yes, this is right. Somehow, Mielle knows, this is right. This is what she is ought to do.

With vague premonitions of a weary and cruel future, Mielle decides to take Aria's hand the day that they met, and though the changes are slow to gather, this action unwittingly changes the course of both of their lives.

To his credit, Wormwood had managed to go a rather long time ignoring it.
The pull in the back of his mind, the feminine cackle of the night, the whispers of the bright moon; it had all been so easy to set aside, then. To lock away in a far off, unfeasible future, to be dealt with some other time by other hands. He had his work, his farms, his friends -- he needed nothing else.
It had caught up to him, though. As was inevitable. Now he needed to figure out what exactly to do with himself, and quick; for it seemed the moon was intent to continue it's taking.
(Wormwood is determined to protect his friends from a familiar enemy on high, no matter the cost; but he doesn't fully know how, and it seems everything in this world is intent on stopping him, no matter what he tries.)
