Summary
Vergil’s devil form, curled over The Thing Dante Isn’t Thinking About, crumbles at the edges into blue sparks. He won’t be able to hold it for much longer, but Dante keeps Ebony and Ivory aimed at him — his brother has never needed teeth and talons to be dangerous. Vergil growls at him from somewhere deep in his throat, and it makes Dante’s bones rattle just as much as that awful
crying.
The idiot probably thinks it makes him sound all scary and intimidating, and not at all like a horny turtle. Dumbass.
“What, you don’t feel like talking? ‘Cos I know I have a few things to say, starting with where the hell have you been where did you get the kid?”
That wickedly sharp tail smashes into the ground, cracking the concrete. Dante is out of its reach, but the message is clear:

He has only one problem: Dwalin, Thorin's newly-hailed Captain of the Guard, won't stop following him around for some reason. His next problem emerges when he realises that Dwalin won't let him leave Erebor under any circumstance.

Summary
Soren knows he can leave it at that. He can excuse himself, and Ike will let him go, always so conscious of his need for privacy. He can escape to the tent he’s had to himself ever since Ike was granted his title and, in the next battle, pretend that his new affinity for staves serves to diversify his skillset from the newest sage in the army. He can save his newly learned magic for the most dire of wounds, ones that Rhys and Mist won’t reach in time.
But he’s never been good at concealing parts of himself from Ike. He already has one poorly-kept secret—another, no matter how insignificant, just might break him.
“I couldn’t bear it,” he confesses in a whisper. He looks away, trying to busy himself with tracking the swirls of dust that dance through the sunlight. He can’t bring himself to see Ike’s face, no doubt weighted with pity. “If you died, we… I couldn’t go on.”
