Summary
Shang Qinghua is not Dumb.
Shang Qinghua is also pretending to be very dumb. Because if his calculations are correct, he is on the fast track to losing his head after accepting a gift from Mobei-Jun on the first night of the Winter Festival. He's somehow become a target for any demon that saw or heard what happened that night. Shang Qinghua deduces that his best chance to stay alive is to pretend that nothing is happening. He may even pretend to not know who Mobei-Jun even is! That's reasonable, right? He could totally get away with it.
Just when things were starting to become peaceful in this forsaken world he created! How was he supposed to know this would happen?
As Shang Qinghua deploys every trick in his arsenal to evade the threat of both capture and the accusation of treason, he feels that the melting ice that is his relationship to Mobei-Jun seems to be freezing over again. His King goes from indecipherably warm to aloof and menacing as quickly as the day changes to night. Actually, Shang Qinghua thinks losing his head might be the best outcome.

Hux rolls his eyes. It's not the trooper's fault that he's the only competent officer on this ship, he supposes.
