Summary
Sense had been coming to Darth Vader for quite a long time...years, in fact. But, trapped in a cumbersome life-support suit without a friend in the world, under the thumb of the most powerful man in the galaxy- Vader saw no way out of his situation. He'd made his bed, so he must lie in it, however awful of a bed it was.
Or so he'd thought. Several years into his own personal hell, he'd woken up one day and realized that the children who Sidious had taken from the Jedi temple- taken and kept alive as the only Force-sensitives left- were dying. Pushed to their limits, they'd begun to break under the pressure of becoming Inquisitors. Now, due to Sidious's abuse, there were only three of them left.Vader did the only thing he could do. Taking the children with him, he fled the Empire. He went back to his old Master, a man he knew to be a doctor and a healer- the best healer left in the galaxy, perhaps. He planned to bargain with his own life, asking the Jedi Healer to save the dying children in exchange.

In protest of a utopia built on the torture of a child, ‘they’ break into the hole and murder the forsaken child whose suffering sustains the city. Disasters begin to strike. The city puts another child in the hole. ‘They’ take the child and kill it on the news to make the point louder. New disasters start. The city puts another child in the hole. The rest of the world starts to question the situation in Omelas.
Much like that one news article story about “The Lottery,” this fic takes the original short story and tilts it at a different angle to make every point it was trying to make sharp enough to stab anyone who somehow didn’t notice.
Definitely left me feeling kinda hollow by the end of it. But, like, in the good writing way where that was exactly the emotion they wanted to induce.
