“You hate us for making you better,” Dick continues against his will. He doesn’t want to be saying this, but really, how dare Bruce be so surprised to hear it? He should understand better than any of them how defective his relationship skills are. He has no right to pretend it isn’t true now that they can all hear it aloud. “But you hate yourself more for making us worse, which is—it’s fucked up, but we’re all fucked up, and it’s—it’s only partially your fault. You secretly wish you’d never met any of us, and you’d be right about it because now we hate ourselves, too.”
How can Bruce have the audacity to look heartbroken when he already knew all of this? Why is he pretending? Why does he keep lying?
(Dick is dosed with truth serum, and the effects will take at least a day to wear off. During that time, Dick is forced to reveal and confront truths about himself that he never wanted to acknowledge. )

He bats away the hand that Grayson reaches out towards him.
“I’m fine,” he repeats again. Grayson looks like he wants to say more, his hand hovering uncertainly in the air for a few moments before he drops it back to his side with a tentative nod.
How long has it been since Damian last tasted blood? Two weeks? Maybe two and a half? Usually he can stave off the hunger pains for at least three, but these past few weeks of Father being dead and patrolling with Grayson have been taxing. It must be the excessive exercise and injury that is making his body call out for blood far sooner than usual. In any other case, Damian would simply go out and find some criminal to take their blood from them, but he cannot do that anymore.
He’s Robin, now.

“We will be climbing down and then up,” Damian decides, given the evidence.
“No, Damian,” she says, and starts off walking, forcing him to come after her as the rope tugs taut. He chews on his lip behind his gator, cringing and trapped by his mistake. Survivalist exercise? Or maybe navigation? Some sort of test? He can’t afford to be wrong again.
“There shouldn’t be any crevasses,” Ommi says into the silence, “but if I start to fall, cut your rope immediately. Understood?”
“Then I can’t stop your fall,” he argues. She gives him a look, just the briefest glance over her shoulder. “Understood.” They crunch on for a minute. “I could rescue you, Ommi.”
“No.” The word clouds the air, just briefly. “You will preserve your own life only. You should think of saving your breath, it’s a long way down.”
That’s not an order, however, so he’s free to push. “We are leaving the compound.” She doesn’t reply. Damian squirms for a moment, trying to find a way to ask that requires no question at all. “We have a destination already in mind.”
“Yes,” Ommi says, finally. “Gotham.”

Dick obediently stops in his tracks, frowning in confusion. He glances around them for the invisible danger, then scans Damian up and down for visible wounds. “What are you—” Then he sees it. Damian’s foot. The device beneath, lazily hidden under the grass and dirt to the point where Damian will be embarrassed later for not seeing it. If he survives, that is. Dick goes pale. “Oh. That’s not good.”
