"Oh, understand," Rocky says. There is a moment's pause, and then he asks, "Grace word mean movement smooth and beautiful. What mean ♬♪♩?"
I type the last word in as 'Ryland', against my better judgement (I'm not looking forward to getting disappointedly full-named by Rocky's sardonic computer dictation).
"It technically means 'land of rye', which is a kind of grass grain, but not all human names are actually words. Actually, now that I think about it, names like 'Grace' are a bit of an exception."
Rocky considers this, claws tapping together the way they do when he's calculating something. I have just finished sealing away the remnants of Taumoeba Batch #72 when Rocky speaks up again.
"What mean Rocky name, question?"
I freeze. Crud.

It's a long way to Erid. Rocky has some name-related revelations, and Grace is going through it. It's technically his fault, but he'll complain about it all the same.

Mystery girl raises an eyebrow. "What's it to you?"
"We, uh ..." Richie rubs the back of her neck, suddenly nervous. The girl is still staring at her, head tilted slightly upwards to accommodate their height difference. Fuck, her eyes are huge. "We're down one vocalist for the Battle of the Bands tomorrow. For Teenage Dirtbag. You interested?"
The girl laughs a bit, her tight grip around her binder relaxing slightly. "Dude, you don't even know me."
"We can fix that," Richie grins.

When Beverly, the Losers' only other vocalist, loses her voice, Richie enlists the help of a cute stranger who walks into their practice room to sing with her. “I’ll miss this,” Suguru admits, spitting the pit of a fresh cherry onto the ground in front of them. Her lips are glistening with the redness of its juice. They look delectable.
“You don’t have to,” Satoru jokes in response, but it comes out more pathetic than she intended.
Suguru laughs as she reaches for a strawberry, holding it between her fingers like a cigarette. “This town is fucking cursed, Satoru. I’m getting the hell out of here.”
Satoru swallows uncomfortably. They don’t talk much more after that.━━━━━━━━
In another life, Satoru and Suguru aren't jujutsu sorcerers. They're just girls in a small town who know each other more than they know the world.
Suguru still leaves. The final summer of their youth still comes to an end.
