The room is too bright.
It’s quaint, in a nauseating sort of way. Polished floors glint from the gleaming honeycomb chandeliers overhead, make him squint. A few vases sprinkled here and there, filling the room with a sickeningly sweet scent – even a waffle-cone headrest framing the silken sheets of a neatly-tucked bed. Outside, the golden sun gleams, the gentle rays of light spilling past curtains that waver in the afternoon breeze.
It's meant to be beautiful. Luxurious. Welcoming.
With one sweep of his cane, Shadow Milk tears it apart.

Where Childe seems determined to get to know Diluc, Diluc is trying to pack away his internal monologue and remind himself that this is it: this is the life he was given, and this is the life he deserves. Luocha glances past him. Nobody on the busy street looks at Jing Yuan twice, and the general didn't even bother to powder over the distinctive beauty mark below his eye. Luocha notes, not for the first time, that the Luofu's general is estranged from his own people. They know him by his uniform and his reputation: he is a legend first, and only nominally a man.
"I could hardly object to the Luofu's very own Divine Foresight," Luocha responds with careful politeness.

"You're smoking." it came out much like a statement, his delivery, steady. But the surprise, and perhaps, concealed disappointment in his voice does not escape Wriothesley's notice.
The duke admits, he did not take kindly to the Chief Justice's scrutiny when it came to his medicating habits. Possibly, it was due to how different their lives truly were, where he could not possibly understand why Wriothesley does the things he does.

But he asked for this. He asked Alhaitham to take him to bed and praise him, to make him feel like he’s not a complete failure.
Alhaitham knows that Kaveh is none of the words leaving his mouth. Kaveh is neither strong nor resolute, and he is certainly not enough.
But Alhaitham is a linguist. And that means he’s good with words, Kaveh supposes—even when he doesn’t mean them.
