"Good." Laios closes his eyes. "That's too bad, though."
A familiar twinge of disbelief runs up Marcille's spine, commandeering her posture until it corrects the academic hunch in her shoulders.
"… Too bad?"
"Yeah, well… You know." The warrior scratches his neck, having to reach up and into his armor's cone-like guard. "The guide isn't always right about these monsters, the deeper we get. What if we smelled the spores got some cool moss powers, like being able to photosynthesize for energy, or naturally regrow our limbs?"
Marcille squints through the eye of her staff until all but willow bark is fuzzy in her vision. It might not be too late to fell the tree on top of them, ending their misery.
