    “I… could really use your help,” Peter forced out. “I know I webbed you that one time, so you probably won’t want to, but I don’t have anyone else to call. Aunt May is at work, Happy didn’t answer, and Tony isn’t… I’m all alone out here.”

    Even when he was hurt, Peter still managed to ramble.

    His last sentence made Bucky’s heart ache for the kid. Tony had probably been his go-to, but it had been months since he’d passed away.

    Bucky went through the same thing with Steve. He had Sam now, but they hadn’t been close at first. It took them ages to build a relationship worth having.

    “You’re not alone,” Bucky countered. “Where are you?”

    Or the one where Peter gets hurt and Bucky is the only person who answers, and Bucky helps him in more ways than one. Set sometime after The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

    Bucky turns around to look at Sam, and he’s more than a little too happy to see the complete shock and confusion on the man’s face. 

    “Sam, meet my friend, Mr. Man.”

    Bucky has never been a wise man. A wise man would never have lived as long as him; would have lay down and died rather than allowing himself to get wrapped up in all of the world’s blaring issues; would have given up on all of the running and hiding and fighting the moment it became clear how useless it was; would have turned and declared no whenever given the alternative of yes, especially when it posed risk to himself.

    A wise man would also not walk towards the strange noises emanating from dark alleyways.

    James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes is not — and never will be — a wise man.
