The thing is, the back traces have always been absentminded. Oscar does it without thinking, and Lando receives it the same way—welcomes it, without question.

It slams into Lando's chest so hard his heart does an actual stutter. He sucks in a breath, blinking at the hotel ceiling, and memory flashes back in jump cuts — chequered flag, radio screaming, “You’re world champion, mate!”, orange smoke, McLaren crew on the fence, his own voice cracking in parc fermé, while the tears stream down uncontrollably.
His face warms before his body has even caught up. God, he really did that on live TV, didn’t he? Like, repeatedly. They’re gonna meme him to death.
He shifts to roll onto his side and something moves next to him.
Warmth. Weight. The tug of the duvet.
Lando freezes.

Charles flops down on the lounge, Sassy and Jimmy long gone, and props his feet up on the coffee table. Max rolls his eyes again, then sits down next to him. He and Charles are friends, kind of, and certainly closer now that they’ve ever been before, but he’s never really witnessed Charles having a PR-related meltdown before. They’re not that close.
Oh, well. A first time for everything, he supposes.
“Great!” Charles says cheerily, then unlocks his phone and shoves it in Max’s face. “Do you also know that we’re ranked second on Archive of Our Own?”

Lando grimaced in response to his question, "yeah, sorry mate, you're not leaving today, flights will still be grounded" he flicked his eyes up at Oscar "and I'm not sure how willing you are to put yourself back in a rental" Lando leaned back "reckon you'll just have to wait until the storm blows over".
Oscar wasn't having any delusions that some miracle path back home would appear, but laid out plainly, his options weren't looking brilliant. "I don't want to impose on you for longer than I have to" he admitted, taking a sip of his tea.
Lando just shrugged, "It's no bother to me, honest"
Oscar gave him an appraising look, "you sure?" he asked.
Lando let out an exasperated huff "Mate, just accept the help, you're really starting to sound like you want me to throw you out into the snow again, its putting a damper on my holiday goodwill", he rolled his eyes.
