What should have rung alarm bells since the very beginning is how every now and then, Jake offhandedly mentions that he can never truly express himself in Korean.
“It’s not that the Korean language is lacking,” he babbles on. “It’s just that since the slight differences in the words aren’t hard-wired in my brain, I have to thoroughly think about what I’m saying more than… feeling, I guess.”
Jay nods at that. “It feels like you can distance yourself from what you’re saying. It’s horrendous when it comes to love, especially. I can wax poetry and tell you how much I adore you in Korean, but it’ll never feel as raw as an I love you.”
“Please, never use a translator when you’re trying to understand people’s feelings." Jake's voice sounds a bit wobbly. "Always come to us. It’d be so cruel for them, for their words." He marks a pause, for once. "It would be cruel to their words.”
Sometimes, when he lays in bed late at night, Sunghoon cannot help but resent them. Having to learn an entire language to decipher someone’s feelings feels quite cruel, too.
"Are not there little chapters in everybody's life, that seem to be nothing, and yet affect all the rest of the history?"

Summary
Jake's computer died today. Or it might have been yesterday, he can't be sure. The cafe's clock just struck 7:00 and it's still (already?) dark outside. That doesn't mean shit, it might already be tomorrow.
The keyboard is covered in coffee, dripping onto his bag and his pants. It is the blood that has been running in his veins for the last 24 hours, splattered onto his hands, nose and lips. The light slowly leaves his laptop, who in one last effort blinks in blue with a sad emoji and its last words; ‘your PC ran into a problem that it couldn’t handle.’
The entire café has gone silent, or what must be at most 5 people. His ears are ringing, and his mouth opens in a silent cry. That's his entire 100k words novel's manuscript lost with no existing backup. The one he spent the last week, and most especially the last 48 hours finishing. The one due today.
(Or: Jake has been crushing on his local barista for a(n embarrassing) while now. (If you listen to Riki.) Surprisingly enough, things finally get moving once said barista's boyfriend comes into the picture.)

Summary
There’s a moment, a brief, terrifying moment, where Sunghoon is just hovering over Jake, looking down at him with a small smile on his face, and he’s actually a little concerned that he really is going to kiss him. And then the moment passes, and Jake feels – weird. That familiar, aimless fear settles over him again, but despite it, a small part of him kind of wishes Sunghoon had accepted his offer. Now, he’ll always be curious about what would have happened if he did.
But in the end, he just does what he always does, and shoves it down to the depths of his subconscious, where there was too much pressure for anything to breathe, to survive.
He doesn’t actually want to kiss Sunghoon, he knows that. Jake has no problems with Sunghoon being gay, but he isn’t gay. He’s probably just feeling a little weird, a little scared, and it’s probably just because of the slight distance he’s been feeling between them lately. Jake has acted much stranger over much less, after all.
