Eddie did not get much sleep that night and spent the morning of his day off half in a haze. One that Chris (thankfully) didn’t comment or notice on due to his newfound teenage brain before leaving to catch his bus.
Which left Eddie alone with his thoughts. Again.
Now left in a quiet house and 3 hours until Buck came home from shift Eddie’s brain represented the latter part of his realization.
He wanted to be kissing someone else. The ‘Buck’ of it all.

“Seeing you up and about was all I ever wanted.”
He was supposed to lighten under the confession, he was supposed to dissolve under the warm lamp light into dust right into Warren’s hands and never ever solidify again. He was supposed to drop the entire conversation right then and there, lean over the stupid deck of cards and kiss Warren square on his lovely mouth like he wanted to do ever since he emerged. He was supposed to look up and see the smile on Warren’s lips, hoping for exactly this course of events to play out in the very next minute.
The sharp stab that throbbed in Gordon’s chest, on the other hand, still wanted to scream. If something in Gordon’s eyes betrayed his actual cause, Warren did not catch it in time.
“Why’s it taking so long for me but not you?”
(where the world seems to keep turning without Gordon in it, and he cannot figure out how to belong somewhere again)

Gordon sniffed, loudly. He was furiously rubbing at his eyes with his sleeve and smudging up his glasses in the process, tremors continuing to spike through him even as he took deep breaths to calm himself down. Now that they weren’t so close and he could get a proper look, it was the smallest Warren had ever seen him - legs tucked to his chest, hands obscuring his puffed-up face and bloodshot eyes.
“Oh,” Grace said. “I see.”
