Summary
Day by day, week by week, Billy Showalter makes an effort to grow closer to Griffin Stagg.
Griffin Stagg is cold, distant, short-tempered, and Vance Hopper’s—Denver High’s toughest fighter and troublemaker—little step-brother. Never in all his years has he ever really liked someone. He promised he wouldn’t. He denies every ounce of love and care from anyone he’s ever met. And Griffin despises Billy for his annoying behaviour as he tries desperately to win him over.
But as hatred turns to curiosity, then curiosity to denial, then denial to adoration, Griffin Stagg breaks that promise.It was the best promise he ever broke.

Griffin Stagg had a horrible freshman year, he can't help but wonder will sophomore year be better?
Though he couldn't completely disregard his first year of high school, for he had made a friend, Finney. And it may not feel like much, but Finney was his first friend, and if Griffin could control it he'd be his last.
Though the high school gods may be up against him, as he get paired up with Billy Showalter, for a project that spans months. Billy's a boy who has it all, or so it seems. Though Griffin knows nothing about this smiling boy, He does know if he intends to continue living a life of solitude, Billy's not the boy to hang around. But it's not really his choice now is it?

One time Griffin had asked him a question back. “What do you write about?” He’d asked. It was said absentmindedly, it slipped out of his mouth before he could stop it.
Showalter had shot him a smile as bright as the sun. “Anything and everything,” the boy had answered back.
Griffin had looked up at that, his eyes moving from the paper he was writing on to Showalter’s open face. “Anything and everything?”
Showalter’s smile shifted into something softer and Griffin tried not to think very hard about that. The boy had only hummed in response.
Griffin hadn’t pushed further and Showalter hadn’t told him.

5 times Billy called Griffin different pet names and 1 time Griffin did.
Griffin Stagg hates Billy Showalter. Billy Showalter does not hate Griffin Stagg. It goes on from there.
