Ponyboy’s breath hitched as the sudden show of emotion. Neither boy outwardly expressed anything–outside of anger or a dullness that all the greasers seemed to carry–but privately they both were pretty artsy people, if Ponyboy were to tell the truth. Though, Curly was less sunsets and more graffiti on the sides of Socs houses. To see him express himself like this in public, made Ponyboy realize that this has been eating up at him for quite a while now.

“They don’t know, Dallas, what the hell do I–”
“This would be your chance to tell them,” Dally said quietly, cutting Ponyboy off, making him pause whatever rant he was about to go on. Ponyboy swallowed thickly, a million thoughts running through his brain, but none seemed to give him an option that wouldn’t have him telling his brothers. He looked down and started picking at his fingers, opening and closing his mouth for a few minutes, not being able to find the words to respond.
Ponyboy stared at the floor. “I’m scared,” he admitted.
Dally watched him for a moment, his lips in a thin line as he considered something. After a brief pause he sighed. “Johnnycakes can’t last much longer,” he said in lieu of a response.

Ponyboy secretly has magic. One day Soda, Steve, and Two-Bit come in with a heavily injured Johnny Cade. This is Ponyboy's chance to tell them what he can do in order to save his best friend from dying.

“It's like,” he squinted his eyes shut in frustration, struggling to put the feeling to words, “it's like, imagine you're walking down the street tomorrow,” he extended his arm out, “and someone calls you, say,” rubbing his temple with his other hand, “Nancy! Say someone calls you Nancy!”
She leaned back on the backrest, still not following where her little brother was leading.
“You wouldn't turn around!” Johnny flailed his arms about dramatically, his frustration with the situation rather visible in his movements, “you wouldn't react because that is not your name. But I… I reacted, Sue,” he brought his arms back to hug himself, “I turned around,” his eyes met hers, confusion and some sort of… pain, clearly visible.

Michael didn’t really have a lot going on anymore, and quite frankly, it was a little weird. He’d been living on the edge for so long (long before the vampires, even) that his body almost didn’t know what to do with itself now that it was all over. They’d dealt with Max, the Lost Boys were gone, there was a state line and a few thousand miles between him and his dad, and Santa Clara was finally, finally starting to feel like home.
That still didn’t mean he thought about his brother much.
