The shivering figure in the cell corner had stopped screaming now that Natasha had stopped speaking to him, and instead was just shuffling himself helplessly into his corner. Shudders raced randomly over his body like electric shocks, making his half-twisted spine twitch under his skin.
“What did he say?” Tony asked.
Natasha closed her eyes. “Numbers. He was repeating numbers.”
“What numbers?”
“Three two five five seven zero three eight.”
“Which means?”
She opened her eyes, the green flashing.
“What numbers would any prisoner be chanting? It’s a serial number, dumbass.”
Tony already had Jarvis running the numbers through a military database, and before she had finished speaking, Jarvis had fed a name to him.
Tony slipped his helmet down to stare blankly at Nat.
“...It can’t really be him,” he said, as if hoping she’d agree and have a different, reasonable explanation. “He shouldn’t have survived that long.”
“I know.”
“He CAN’T have survived that long.”
“Steve did,” she said softly.

In the end, it’s not the potential for heartbreak that haunts him at night, no. It's the certainty that, even after ruin, he’ll still want Stiles with a hunger that outlives any betrayal.
Sometimes Derek wonders if his entire bloodline was forged specifically to keep therapists employed for the next hundred years.
Maybe happiness decided to skip him on purpose? Like it looked at the Hale family tree and said: nah, way too fucking flammable.
It would be just his goddamn luck.
Or: Trust is a blade, and Derek keeps handing it to people who smile when they twist it. He doesn’t know if Stiles will end up being one of those people or not, but it wouldn’t exactly surprise him.

Bars of Bone and Fragile Humanity by tsukinofaerii
Absolutely fucking amazing tour de force of a fic that is so well constructed and executed. There are so many characters here (really just Lydia and Jackson are absent) during the horror of the summer that the alpha pack is in Beacon Hills. The Sheriff is such a big player and so incredibly written (named Randy here) and I love him with all my heart.
Boyd and Erica are such central characters throughout, especially with their POV sections playing key roles in progressing the plot and showcasing how Stiles and Derek are also growing/changing.
And Stiles and Derek *are* growing and changing. Hooooo boy are they. The tags keep the plot pretty well hidden (my own tags added here highlight them) and I was constantly on edge wondering how things would progress. But damn, I was not disappointed at all. Truly such a perfectly written fic that hit so many buttons for me and one I will want to reread in the future for sure!
Only thing lacking is a sequel by the author fully mapping out how Stiles and Derek balance their new dynamic and pack....but they also set me up to imagine my own happy/angsty/steamy ending that I am not complaining, lol.

Ivy on the Hill by chaya
Absolutely amazing story with beautiful imagery throughout, all from Geralt’s pov. I adored the vignettes to show how their relationship changed over time. They were always so complimentary towards Jaskier (of course, not at all because Geralt is biased in his thoughts towards him, nope) and so gentle with Geralt realizing over time that Jaskier is something he really wants and that he wants to try to have.
Gorgeous from start to finish.
