Summary
At sixteen, Catra and Adora run away to join the military, hoping to escape their abusive foster home. At eighteen, they’re recruited into the Special Forces. At twenty-one, they’re sent on a suicide mission that will supposedly end a thirty-year war. Neither of them expects to survive, but they do. Their friendship doesn’t.
Adora hasn’t seen Catra since that fateful day five years ago. Now a teacher, (and infamous ex-war hero) at Brightmoon School, she knows the new Literature teacher a little too well. A lot has happened in five years, but Adora is set on fixing a broken promise from long ago.
However, with their troubled past, scarred present, and a new threat called ‘Prime’ rising to power, it seems they might also have to fight for their future.

She doesn't expect the private jet.
And she really doesn't expect what comes next.(A story about a woman who wants to burn down the system, the last person she ever wanted to see again handing her the matches, and the terrifying, glorious gamble of telling the truth.)

Bow’s reaction as pure stress overcomes his entire being might’ve been hysterical if not for the growing stakes, “You’re what just broke? Are you telling me you’re in labor?”
“No Bow, I’ve just been having regular contractions for the last sixteen hours but I’m sure the midwife will think that’s completely normal- yes, I’m in labor, King Dumbass!”

Catra got the opportunity to perform on the VMAs main stage and she used it to make it obvious to everyone what popstar her breakup songs are about – Adora included, because she didn’t even know Catra was making music until she was watching from the side of the stage. The public has front row seats to watch as their feud and relationship unfolds online, in the tabloids, and through fan interactions. As public figures, everything about their story is told through the public eye, and interpretation of their music isn’t up to them anymore.

Numb, emptied of emotion, she sat curled up in the window of the dark living room rather than going back to bed. From this vantage point, she felt crystal clear about her future.
He was going to kill her.
All her dormant survival instincts came screaming to life. Her hackles went up, her claws slid out, and she wanted nothing more than to drop to all fours and fucking run.
