Summary
They're headed to trial, half his team is covered in blood or fresh from some duel, their best attorney has stormed out, and he misses his wife. His internal timer, previously marking the time toward the end of this disagreement with the Trojans over the accursed and damned Helen acquisition, has been sharply reset. Odysseus’s mind races, looking for a gap, a way to slither out of this sudden wall that has been built between him and getting home.
Over the course of an evening, high powered lawyers Odysseus and Diomedes embark on a journey up and down a single glittering skyscraper, where Greek and Trojan law firms fight over the acquisition of the Helen company.

Then, without hesitation, she steps closer. Closer than she ever has.
And she sinks to her knees before him.
Diomedes’ breath stills. His pulse does something strange – something off – as he watches her, long golden curls spilling over her shoulders, her skirts pooling around her. She is not a woman who bows. He cannot recall a single moment she has bowed to someone since his visits to Ithaca have begun, let alone knelt.
Yet here she is, kneeling before him – not in submission, not in deference
She reaches for his hands.
Lifts them between her own, cradling them with a reverence he does not understand. His fingers are rough, scarred from blade and spear, hands that have torn through flesh, that have left bodies in their wake. Hands that do not belong here.
“Creation, much like destruction, is an art," she murmurs, pressing them closer, “And like all art, it too can be learned.”
(Or, one of the many scenes of Diomedes and Penelope falling in love during the years of the Odyssey as they wait for Odysseus' return)

Odysseus brings her hands up to his lips, planting a grateful kiss there. “Soon.” He says. “Soon.”
“Not soon enough.” Helen says, pulling her hands back. Her eyes find Diomedes again as Odysseus backs away retreating into the shadows. For a moment, they simply look at each other, and she smiles, and she’s beautiful, but it doesn’t spark any feeling in him. He is not compelled to spirit her away back to Argos or have her for himself. Suddenly, looking at her, the past ten years seem so pointless.

Odysseus shakes his head. “Haven’t had much time to think about it. Do you have any ideas?”
“Metis,” the goddess replies immediately, then looks away as if embarrassed by her eagerness.
“Metis,” Odysseus repeats thoughtfully, testing how the name feels in his mouth. “It means ‘cunning’, doesn’t it?”
“Yes. And it was my mother’s name.”
The mortal looks up, surprised. “I didn’t know you had a mother.”
“My father absorbed her.”
Odysseus opens his mouth to reply. Closes it. Thinks for a moment, opens his mouth again, changes his mind, closes it. In the end, all he says is, “It’s a good name.”

The fact he is here out of choice, and because he wants to be, would have been so far out of believability to be laughable.

Summary
Not only had he brought Rapunzel back, but he’d saved her life. A heroic feat, and one completely unbefitting of him. Eugene wasn’t sure he was even capable of growing into those footsteps he’d set for himself, no matter how much time he’d be given. A lifetime worth of growth wouldn’t shape him into a person worthy of consideration.
“Is that so?” asked the Queen, though instead of cutting through the tension, it only added to it. A million expectations, dozens of other accomplishments that would be attributed to him by association. He’d saved a life, had traded his own for that of the Princess, and would now have to answer to her parents. And they would find out that it was a one time thing, that he hadn’t done it because he valued her status as royalty but because he’d found something worth living for in her, because he’d realised that the world needed more people like her, and no matter what he said, it wouldn’t land. He didn’t have the grace to wrap it up nicely; whatever he could think of would be dropped at their feet, clumsy like a boy.
