Neat little casefic, Sherlock being clever and a subtle tale of friendship and care. Could easily be a scene in the show. Lovely.

Excellent casefic. The pace is good and keeps you hooked till the end. Its canon and could easily be an episode in the series. The fact that both Sherlock and John miss each other and miss working together after John's marriage is dealt with maturity and without angst or "pining". Sherlock's intellect and John's intuitive protectiveness of Sherlock both shine. That Anderson approaches Sherlock for the case proves that no matter our personal opinions, when a crisis occurs we tend to gravitate to the most competent to deal with said crisis. Always.
The resolution of the case poses an interesting question for the reader about their opinion about Sherlock’s moral compass. Fascinating!-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My brother asked me if I knew of anyone who could help him get justice. I told him I would ask." He finally meets Sherlock's eyes. "Would you take a look at the case and forget that he's my brother?"

Amazing!
Little missing scenes from Season 1. Follow canon faithfully and so much in character that I was utterly convinced and kept nodding my head, "Yes. Of course. This must have happened. They just forgot to show us."‐---------------------------------------------------------------
"The landlady, Mrs Hudson. She's given me a special deal..."It was years later when John finally understood what the 'special deal' was: whatever Dr. Watson can afford. Tell him he's paying half. Mycroft and I will make up the rest.

Although a short story, this reads like it is a canon episode; a thrilling rescue of Lestrade locked in a car boot with a bomb ticking next to him and the timer is ticking down. A brilliant Sherlock armed with an intimate knowledge of London and unwavering focus, saves him. Great canon characterisation of both Sherlock and Lestrade. I loved it!
-------------------------------------------------------
He waited only a few seconds before trying the call again.
“Sherlock Holmes.”
In the five years of their acquaintance, Lestrade had never been so happy to hear that dulcet, haughty voice. -

Athletic prowess, a razor sharp intellect combine with a hunger for inner quietude that manifests only when being truly engaged with both mind and body. Glorious fighter Sherlock in his element!
----------------------------------------
"But this is how it is when you really, truly concentrate. Your focus does not narrow- how you’ve always hated that expression!- it expands. So in addition to every ordinary, pedestrian fact about this room and its contents, you see your opponent so clearly that it's as if he's telling you his life story aloud. ... And as fast as you absorb this data you are processing it, analyzing his body and his history and his movements and predicting that he will close in again with a series of jabs, like so, yes, lovely."

Another favourite by this author!
Watch carefully what Sherlock does, what he is in this story. Very carefully. What he does for Mrs Hudson. What he does for Lestrade. Love must transform into action otherwise it is meaningless words and useless Sentiment only. Contrast with John's character. It is very subtle, the way the author has revealed the contrast.
Folks confuse "being nice" and "being socially adept" with Goodness.
Sherlock Holmes is a good man and a great man-- read this story to understand the difference. It is amazing! -

John Watson is possibly the most stoic man in the Sherlock universe. What is he hiding under that facade? What are all these things he can’t tell his therapist, can’t write in his blog, can’t even allow himself to say?
"My flatmate is the world’s only genius consulting detective, and I am the world’s foremost closeted perverted queer. I wonder what notes Ella would scribble down if she caught wind of that."

Summary
When Greg Lestrade meets Sherlock Holmes, the brilliant young detective seems to have left his past as a drug addict far behind. But when one of their cases pitches Sherlock headlong into a relapse, Greg is determined not to lose him – whatever the cost to himself.
A piece of canon-compliant backstory, set pre-series.
Rated “M” for violence and realistic depictions of the consequences of drug abuse.

This is a trope, is it not? Lestrade helps detox a young junkie Sherlock using the lure of the "Work"?
And yet...
It has never been done with more finesse. Lestrade and Sherlock stay in character and the author's respect and love for both is evident in every word. Lestrade's first person POV is brilliant! This story could easily read as a pre-canon episode.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This---
""And then they're off at top speed, down the road, Toby in the middle, his nose on the tarmac, the dog handler in his high-vis jacket – thankfully, a very fit young man – on his left, Sherlock with his dark coat billowing out behind him on his right. They're an absurd trio, seen from the passenger seat of the police car we follow them in, racing along like that, the leather soles of Sherlock’s shoes flashing white in the almost darkness – shoes that would give me blisters just walking a mile at a sedate pace in. But he’s running and running, not to show off how long he can keep going, not to prove that he's clever because he alone knew where to look for the scent they're following now, not for any other purpose but that of saving the lives of two little girls who happen to have a psycho for a father.
I get a strange feeling in my chest then. Something in it contracts with a little twinge, nothing disturbing, nothing disquieting, over again in a second, but still a clear, physical reaction to what I'm seeing there. Later, I will remember that as the moment when Sherlock Holmes truly made a place for himself in my heart. Did I ever say that you can’t like him? All rubbish. You can’t not."
Superb!

A beautiful gem, worthy of Sherlock. I've read it so many times that I can quote from it.
This---
The music is so grave and pure against the dirty, shabby tile that he has to catch his breath. He glances around, covertly, to see if anyone else has noticed, but every face is dull and stony, so braced against the routine hostilities of the daily commute that they can't even respond to the beauty breaking all around them."---Evocative. In-character. Beautiful.

I've read all the Sherstrade there is on the internet. This is by far the best, with everyone staying in-character. Go read it!
This---
" At least he didn't get this at 7am every morning. Although a small rebellious part of him thought that maybe he'd put up with a great deal to be woken by Sherlock in person at 7am, and that John Watson was, all things considered, still a lucky bastard.--- I know exactly how you feel, Lestrade. And couldn't agree more!

An absolutely charming little gem of Sherlock and a little girl. Being effective without drowning in sentiment! Caring without fanfare. The only way to be. This is Sherlock. I loved it!
Also note, the author wrote this in 2012 and predicted that Sherlock would have had a normal, boring upbringing without the variety of upheavals and childhood traumas that most imagine in the quest for drama. I find this extraordinary! -

A conversation between Mycroft and Sherlock within minutes after Sherlock's jump. As canon as it gets, I tell you!
Go on, read it. And then start to question.
A biased fandom has conditioned us over the years into believing a few things---John, who grieved amidst the relatively familiar and sympathetic, was righteous in his anger and held the moral high-ground after Reichenbach. Sherlock, who left behind the familiar, sympathetic and safe to step into the unknown and dangerous, was selfish, unfeeling and wrong and should perform penance.
Go on, read this story. This conversation or something very similar had to have happened. And now, question.
Amazing story! Thank you!------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"A tear ran down his cheek and he swiped it away with a practised movement, as though it were something to which he'd grown accustomed. Mycroft hadn't seen Sherlock cry since he was three years old."

Sherlock and Fem!John have sticky, sweaty sex during a heat wave in London.
Sherlock sits back, staring at Joanna with wide eyes as he licks a drop of her blood from his lip. She stays in place, panting and draped against the couch.
"Is there anything you wouldn't let me do to you?" he whispers, awed.
She blinks up at him, before looking away. "Does it matter?" she snaps, which is the same thing as saying 'No'.

Sensual. Quiet. In-character. Gorgeously written.
This is Series One Sherlock through and through. Magnificent. Objective. Untouchable. You may crave, you can never possess. This is the Sherlock that drove Moriarty to distraction. This Sherlock would not have tolerated Season 3 and 4 John Watson for five minutes!
