The cool metal of the microphone pressed against Stelle’s lips as she breathed. The moment before she spoke, her eyes landed on her.
In the back, wavering around the bar table. In a dark nightclub full of people waving bright lights and flashing lasers, it still came naturally to Stelle—how her gaze fell onto the woman in a coat with shades resting on the top of her head. Her mouth hung open, and her breathing caught in her throat. As her hands fell, her heart raced, just as it had done a long time ago.
(Or after three years since their breakup, Kafka comes back to Stelle.)
