Wesker never truly expressed joy with his mouth; it seldom ever gave little more than a quirk of amusement or a downturn of disapproval. Leon had discovered, however, that evidence of the stoic captain’s secret joy lay behind his eyes. Since they’d gotten closer, he would often give him wry grins, even barking out an occasional dry Ha! in amusement, but what the rookie had come to covet were the rare instances of true, genuine light behind those steely gray hues.
It was always fleeting, lasting less than a moment, and could never be seen from behind his trademark sunglasses. Every time Leon would be lucky enough to catch it, he would press his lips gently against the crow’s feet at the corner of Albert’s eyes, thanking him for such a blessing. He felt his blonde eyelashes brushing against his nose as he did so as if to thank him in return for his worthiness.

“I hate seeing her so scared,” Alex murmurs, voice thick with emotion.
“So do I,” Henry breathes.
It’s quiet for a half-second, before Alex turns off his “melancholy dad” face and quickly shifts into “protective husband” mode. He grabs their go bag and extends his hand to Henry.
“Come on, babe. Let’s go have another one.”
Henry laughs and accepts his husband’s outstretched arm confidently.
It will be fine. They’ve done this before.

It’s been a very surreal two hours since they’d begun to suspect that Henry is in labor. Like, real labor this time.
They’ve had more than a few false starts, more than a few scares with Braxton Hicks contractions, more than a few frantic calls to their midwife’s office that ended with disappointment as they returned to the lake house sans anticipated baby. At 40 weeks + 3 days pregnant, Henry insists that this time, they will be producing a baby, even if he has to, quote, “go in there and yank her out himself”. It’s safe to say he’s over being pregnant.
So right now, as Henry grips the edge of their bedroom dresser, head hanging between his shoulders, eyes squeezed shut, suntanned skin aglow with small beads of dewy sweat, breathing laboriously, Alex hovers and tries to be useful.
