Summary
Everything in her life was going well.
With no disaster to point towards or a terrible failure spreading its shadow across the floor, her nerves were becoming increasingly more unsettled, though nothing had happened. No one had left, missions were comfortable, and none of her friends looked at her with fear in their eyes. Nobody slammed a door on her face, and the sky still rose in beautiful hues every morning. Her life had begun assembling itself into something almost reverent.
So why did she keep waking up with a stone in her chest?

Summary
She had dressed to be seen so that, if anyone remembered her after tonight, they would remember beauty before pain.
The guards at the entrance scanned her invitation first then her face. One of them hesitated for a second too long, because something in Illari’s expression did not fit the room she was about to enter. She let him look, knowing that men like him were trained to search for physical weapons or threats. They were rarely trained to recognize grief when it had become dangerous enough to be passed off as control.
After another moment, he stepped aside and the Gilded Fang swallowed her.

Summary
Illari shook it away before she crossed the distance from the sink, rounding the table so she was face to face with the window. The world had turned colorless beyond the glass, with nothing but black trunks and gray fog drifting in layers so thick the pines seemed to be blinking in and out of existence. She lifted a hand to shield her eyes from the singular, weak overhead bulb and scanned the clearing, though she wasn’t exactly sure what she was searching for.
At first, she saw nothing, the forest keeping to itself as it had the last few nights.
Then after precisely three breaths, something moved.

Summary
Illari’s eyes were bright. Not soft bright, but the kind of bright you saw in a flare when it's first ignited. There were shadows under them; bruises that battered the beauty away by the hands of sleepless nights. Her face was young, yes, but the tension in her jaw made her look older. As presumed, her hands were balled into fists with scars that didn’t belong to someone who’d lived an easy life.
A faint shimmer clung to her skin, like leftover heat traveling along lines etched into her dark skin.
“Who hired you?” Illari asked.

Summary
“She’s rude. Cold. Probably allergic to joy,” Kiriko huffed, then paused. “And hot. Which is so unfair.”
Hana smirked knowingly. “Ah, I see. You’ve been struck by the Curse of the Beautiful Bitch.”
“Don’t,” Kiriko warned, pointing at her. “I’m not into her. I just… noticed. A little. It’s a crime to have eyes now?”
Hana hummed, unconvinced.

Summary
A plea formed on the tip of her tongue.
Stay.
Kiriko bit her lip, trying to muster the nerve to ask as Illari looked for her shorts around Kiriko’s disheveled room.
Stay.
That wasn’t part of their arrangement though. Illari never stayed.

Summary
It may be spring, but after the sun sets, the chilly weather crawls back in an instant. Before the last sunray could disappear that illuminates the wooden bench, Kiriko stands up.
“Let’s go.”
“Where are we going?” Illari asks.
“Inside. The moment the sun sets, you’re going to get cold.”
Illari tries to disagree, even if she knows the other girl’s right. Kiriko is as sly as a fox. She can’t let her win. But is there a contest, even?Bookmarked by ren_squid

Summary
{ Illari wobbled over to the mystery girl, anxieties long forgotten. The girl noticed and looked up at the drunken mess stumbling towards her with a small smirk and without warning, Illari threw herself down on the seat beside her with all the grace of a hippo.
“Why are you,” she paused, eyebrows furrowed in concentration as she searched for the right words, “what are you doing for me. Looking at me?”
The other girl chuckled and sat forward in her seat, placing her empty glass down on the table in front of her.
“Had a bit too much to drink have we, Sunshine?” she asked, an amused grin spreading across her face. }
