Nina holds her annual company party a week before Christmas.
Brooke is invited, naturally, and brings Vanessa because of course she does.
Nina teases that she knows they come as a pair these days and Brooke doesn’t have it in her to argue. Nina is right and all of them know it. Vanessa is as concrete in her life as anything she’s ever known and it’s nice, she likes it.
Brooke understands that Vanessa does, too, and they discuss their excitement for the evening over a glass of wine. Vanessa’s sat in their dressing room, lipstick bullet in hand.
She paints her lips scarlet and it’s a dash of fire within the cream walls surrounding them. Brooke eyes her from the corner of her own mirror and lets a content smile grace her face.

Nodding in agreement, Brooke moves to rest her chin in the palm of her hand. Her elbow squeaks against the table top, and Vanessa bites into her bottom lip to prevent a giggle from toppling past her teeth. Brooke half wishes she hadn’t; Vanessa’s laugh is one that she’s quickly coming to enjoy, when it’s husky and breathy, stupid yet endearing.
“I’m stuck in this sauna for another week and a half”. Brooke huffs.

“-She’s good, I’m sure. An old friend of Yvie’s, apparently. Pay her a nice bit on the side, she’ll keep quiet”. She reassures.
Brooke might believe her, but turns her nose up regardless. She’s sceptical, always is when a break in routine is suggested, and picks up the card, analyses it further. There’s nothing more to find - it’s plain black, gold embossed lettering - and she slots it wordlessly into her purse, drops said purse back onto the bar.

Summary
Vanessa’s all pinned hair and expensive perfume, with a shimmer along her skin that glimmers under the soft lights of the limo. She’s sitting demurely, her legs crossed at the ankles but the hooded look of her eyes and the slight curve of her lips betray exactly what she’s thinking.
After years of being with Vanessa, Brooke’s learned how to understand her nonverbal cues without having to ask any questions at all. It starts with the way Vanessa’s fingers brush against hers, running along her engagement ring. Light and innocent, a touch that’s almost barely there. The way Vanessa’s eyes trail from her eyes to her lips and back up again, the way that her lips slightly part and how her thighs squeeze together in a movement so subtle, that anyone else would miss it.
Set in the Game of Survival verse, but seeing as this is basically PWP, no need to have read the other fics first.

Nini takes a deep breath, and very delicately turns her head to the side as much as she can to try and see for herself. The angle is bad, so all she can really see is the top of Myki’s head. Nini’s jacket has slipped down and off her shoulder, though, and she’s ninety-nine percent sure that what she feels on her bare skin is Myki’s cheek resting there, gentle exhales skittering across Nini’s upper arm.
