“Thanks,” Charles said, quietly.
“It’s just a shirt,” Edwin muttered, though it wasn’t really what he meant.
He ducked his head, suddenly unable to stand the sight at all: Charles, with exhaustion written into the cut-glass lines of his features and pain in the stiffness of his back and still he managed to look at Edwin with gratitude for handing over a fucking t-shirt.
Something was burning inside him, deep in the recesses of his chest, something protective and furious, that made him want to wrap Charles up in his arms - and in a t-shirt and his maroon jacket with the red plaid lining and his new black coat with its steadily-growing collection of lapel pins and maybe a blanket on top of that, and bundle him away somewhere that he would never be cold or hurt again. Somewhere Charles could be safe; maybe somewhere they both could.

“The day! What day is today?!” Derek let Stiles go, but only so he could reach into his pocket and pull out his phone. He tapped at the home screen, and then went so perfectly still that Stiles was pretty sure this guy wasn’t human. No human could stand that still.
When it was clear Derek wasn’t going to move again without some prompting, Stiles said, “It’s Wednesday.”
“That’s impossible,” Derek whispered.
“Not really, it comes around every seven days.”
“This is impossible,” Derek said again, looking around himself, as if he was searching for something.

Summary
These three pieces of evidence are suspicious in isolation. Taken together, they do what all clues do: they come together to form a cohesive picture. A chorus of instruments, each one laid over the others to form a single melody.
Someone is hurting Charles. He’s in trouble, and for some indiscernible reason, he doesn’t trust Edwin to help.

Edwin's teeth are worrying at his lower lip. He's staring up at Charles under lashes like he's nervous about looking directly. If he could be less pretty, Charles would almost appreciate it.
Edwin is pressing his fists together.
"Mate, what's got you so worked up?" Charles says, almost snappish with exasperation.
"It does seem a little, permanent, don't you think?"
Charles glances at his rough sketched design of their door sign: Dead Boy Detectives.
"Yeah, I think it bloody does."
Or, 1990, their first year together. They set up a business. Charles navigates his loss. Edwin has a panic attack. Charles falls in love. And they go to the cinema. Not in that order. Follows on from "We Didn't Matter, He and I".

Summary
Charles learned at a very young age that in order to survive, reading people quickly was a necessity. The home he grew up in had been an emotional minefield, so his ability to read a room as soon as he entered it was crucial if he wanted to avoid his father’s unwanted attention. He made errors sometimes, especially as a young boy, which was always unfortunate - his father was not very forgiving of errors. Being able to predict his father’s mood swings was often the difference between a peaceful evening alone in his room, or an evening spent pleading for mercy on the kitchen floor. Learning to avoid the emotions of others became a method of survival, and Charles had always been good at surviving.
Well, until now. Now he’s dead and that habit, however exhausting, has followed him to his afterlife.

Summary
Ghosts cannot feel cold, but Charles is shivering, so hard it would be sending ripples out through the water if he were corporeal. Ghosts cannot get wet, either, but Charles is positively drenched, glistening curls sticking to his forehead and sending rivulets down his unsettlingly grey face. His deep brown eyes are wide, but not in the lovely, doe-gazed way that so often sends Edwin’s undead heart into a tailspin. Instead, they are wide in the way of a deer in the headlights; stock still in the face of oncoming terror. Paralyzed, not in the present, but in some past memory of dread—so consuming it blots out everything else.
“Charles? What’s wrong?” Edwin asks. Yet even before the question has left his mouth, he already knows.

A trap orchestrated by a deceased wizard drops the boys into the middle of the ocean, and Charles’s fear of water makes an appearance.

It's taken literal Hell for Charles to realise that actually, when he told Edwin that he loved him in 1989, he might not have been joking after all. As the demon rushes up towards them, Charles turns on his heels, takes a step down, and kisses Edwin hard and quick.

"Look, you're new," Hank says. "And you're the first android we've had on our payroll. Jeff wanted you back really badly, and so did I, but that doesn't mean other people aren't going to be assholes to you."
Connor's brow pinches together. "Everyone knows we were partners before. They know we're friends."
"That's not really what I..." Hank starts, but then he cuts himself off. "Look, you haven't been around for a few months. It's enough time for rumors to take hold, and you have enough stacked against you anyway that we don't need to feed any of that bullshit...okay?"
Connor runs a small process on the side to determine likely options for what Hank is telling him, although he thinks he already knows. Hank is uncomfortable mentioning it, and rumors tend to be about illicit activities, and it would have to be regarding something Connor might have done that would make Hank favor him at work.
And he really wasn't expecting to have anyone speculating that he and Hank might be sexually involved, but it doesn't entirely bother him. It's...interesting.

Connor doesn't always know where he belongs or where his home is after the revolution, but he thinks he knows where he'd like to be.
