Summary
Somewhere in the garage, Jason squeaks to a stop again, but this time, there’s no shouted exclamations, and the footsteps don’t start again. Dick furrows his brow. It sounds like he stopped near the Japanese cars, and Dick can’t even remember what’s over there. He picks up his pace from where he had been meandering through the garage and beelines to where he thinks Jason is, the sudden silence unnerving him. God, what if something’s wrong, what if—
Jason is standing, arms frozen at his sides, breath shallow, jaw clenched tight, eyes the size of dinner plates. When Dick sees what he’s staring at, he can’t help the smirk. Jason turns his whole head to look at Dick and says, in a near whisper: “is that a Supra?”
“Yeah,” says Dick, “that’s the Supra.”
OR
Bruce requests that Dick try to bond with Jason before the adoption and leaves zero instructions on how to do that. Dick improvises.

I knew it when it was impossible for it to be in front of me. I knew it faked and warped and desecrated and delusional and spitting mad. I knew it when it killed me to know it, to believe it to be true—”
“Describe it,” Dick challenges.
“I knew his face three years dead beneath a domino. I knew it as he carved a chunk of flesh from his own scalp and cursed my name…” His fingertips drift to a spot two inches behind his ear. Is that uneven texture the sign of a years-old scar, or just a tangle of hair?
(Or: Jason and Bruce get bodyswapped. It takes two full days for anyone to point it out to them.)

“Did Talia send you?” Jason spits angrily as he tries to sweep her off her feet. “Are you from the League?”
“Am not,” Cassandra replies and holds back a huff as he attacks again, this time with something she thinks is a flame dagger. Some of his moves are foreign to her, but she knows Batman’s training when she sees it. Jason seems to incorporate both elements well, so much so that he almost manages to catch her side with his sharp blade. This fight’s been going on long enough.
Grabbing Jason’s wrist just right and putting a necessary amount of pressure on it, Cassandra says, “You’re good. I’m better.”
And that’s how she ends up pinning her brother down behind a dumpster. So much for making a good first impression.

“The explosion,” Vin grunts, wrapping the wound up tight. “Helped him rig the bomb myself.”

Summary
Jason slings himself over the railing—just to prove that he still can—and heads down the fire exit, taking two stairs at a time despite himself. It's a quick walk down to the bend, but he finds himself breathless anyway, the warm summer air choking him with a sweaty kind of anticipation. A part of him wishes he had changed before coming down. He's in an old band T-shirt that doesn't bode well with the impression he's trying to make. But delaying his descent would've almost certainly driven his visitor away, and Jason wants that even less than he wants to make a bad impression.
He opens the door and slides in.
"Jason," says Batman, like he wasn't expecting him. Like he hadn't been beaming Morse code into the dust motes like the theatrical vampire that he is.

Summary
Flying back to Cherry Street, weaving reckless in the dark, it comes down to this: Dick is the only one of his siblings that Jason has any real claim on. Dick is the only one of that whole mess of victims to Batman's cult of self-immolation who belongs to Jason. Even more than that - Dick is the only person in the world who he shares a parent with, who knows what it meant to be the Robin to Batman of nearly ten years ago.
It's just not the same anymore.
So if Dick fucking kicks it, Jason's the only one left. Jason becomes an only child. Jason becomes the last of his kind. Jason becomes the sole keeper of that memory, of a brotherhood shared under a man who no longer exists. There is no way to replace Dick, because the world that they lived in together is gone, and can never give Jason a surrogate.
The Red Hood pulls the thread on a mystery big enough to bridge the distance between two cities, two brothers: The plot they unravel is far deeper and darker than a garden-variety drug trafficking scheme. A story about siblingship, hauntings, and rivers.
