Summary
It isn't long before Lieutenant Montgomery Adamson knocks on the door of Robby's clinic. The gleam of his uniform is intimidating, helped along by the sword belted to his hip. Robby shows him into the front room, already shaking his head.
"How many times do I have to decline, sir?" Robby walks directly to the liquor cabinet. It's two in the afternoon, and he has a patient waiting to be seen. To hell with it; Mr. Harris complains once a week with persistent external piles. He can wait. Robby pulls a bottle of bourbon from the top shelf and, after a beat of hesitation, a singular glass.
Adamson ignores his question. "A short stint. One, two years tops. We need proper physicians out there, Robby. Ones we can trust. Talented, quick on the spot. We need you."

Summary
"I'm not here!" Jack's voice echoes from down the hallway into the kitchen. There are a few scraping sounds and then a soft thud. Robby grimaces.
"Kinda sounds like he's here." Jesse looks at Robby from over his mug. Delicate wisps of steam curl from the ceramic. Jesse looks good, like he's slept, and the golden sun setting through their bay window almost deceives Robby into thinking the tired bruises they all carry under their eyes have softened.
Heavy boot steps thud up their hardwood as Jack rushes into the kitchen with his scrub top bunched at his pits. "Sorry, sorry, running late. There was a thing and then I couldn't find my belt and did you see that article on spider-bite induced necrosis?" He steps into Robby's space and kisses his cheek.

The ED is thrumming when he arrives. Robby intercepts him at the lockers and hands off a tablet with a chart already populated.
“Water slide collapse earlier today. Only a few majors, thank god.”
“Yeah. Heard it on the scanner,” Jack replies, absently. The screen lights up his pale face, freckles popping under dark smudged eyes.
Jack doesn't need any more referrals.

Summary
Robby doesn't recognize the man until the third song, and by then the pressure in his Carharts is obscene. Jesse Van Horn is transformed under the dim neon of the bar. A twist of gray curls bounce against his forehead while his sticks skip over the lid of the snare. Smokey black eyeliner accentuates the slate of his stare, and Robby can't rip his eyes from him. He wants to know what those hands would be capable of against his skin.
Near the middle of the set, the band settles into a drifting, melodic song. Jesse keeps time almost casually, backing the vocalist with curling harmonies until the end, when the stage goes silent for the lead to finish the song a cappella. Jesse leans over to snag a water bottle and Robby is forced to watch as the line of his throat swallows over and over.
Robby becomes a groupie.

Summary
It's been a full year of living in close quarters on the Hail Mary. Grace was bound to mess up eventually.
If Grace was still on Earth, he would have plenty of options for places to go. A quiet park, maybe a movie theater, a walk on the beach. Something like that. As it is, stuck on the Hail Mary, he just doesn’t have that many options of places to go after a fight with his roommate.

Summary
One thing that Rocky has learned about humans is that they like to look at pictures.
Maybe. Or maybe it is just a particular habit of his Grace, who seems to pass more and more time sitting in the projection room and looking at his rolling images of Earth.
Rocky likes Earth. Especially the beach. That’s Grace’s favorite place, too.
But the pictures don’t change. Not more than they did the first time Grace showed him, with the waves crashing up onto the sand and the leaves of the trees rustling in the wind.
