    On the wall behind the couch where Opera O is sitting, there is a poster for one of his races from way back then. He had it framed and well kept. In the poster, he’s in his racewear, the emphasis on all the shiny metal he so loved to flaunt when he ran. It’s a sight for sure. Especially when the real thing is right in front of it: he still keeps his hair short, and it still looks amazing even if it’s not as well kept as it used to be. He’s definitely different but somehow the exact same. He still has the same droopy eyelids and the same piercing purple eyes. His ears are still adorned and his smile still looks like the smile of a young, skilled racer. It’s almost like a cheap copy of the original that just paid attention to the key details.

    Admire Vega doesn’t especially love thinking about the past because she knows she would start wishing she could relive it as much as Opera O does, and he is a perfect example of someone completely stuck in that past. She only half-wishes she could be stuck in it with him.

    Or,

    Ayabe comes over to a very nostalgic T.M. Opera O. They both relive their racing days in their own weird ways.

    The name slipped out before Emily could stop it. Andrea’s breath caught, and Emily heard it. The sound was small. It was devastating - and Emily decided to dig the knife in deeper.

    “That has always been the problem, hasn’t it?” Emily said. “You don’t know. You don’t know what you want until someone else has paid the price. You don’t know whether you want fashion or journalism, ambition or virtue, New York or elsewhere, me or the clean little story where leaving was brave because staying would have been complicated.” Andrea’s face went white. Emily kept going, her voice barely a whisper. “You arrive twenty years later with slightly better trousers and a sad little apology, and I am meant to do what, exactly? Admire your growth? Provide texture for your article? Reassure you that the woman you abandoned has done splendidly, actually, so no harm done?”

    Andrea leaves Emily, who has famously not got over a single thing in her life. Now Andrea's back with a vengeance - and Emily is taking the vengeance part quite literally. Minimal plot, quite a bit of smut from chapter two onward. For the love of God, please heed the tags.
