Voice stuttering as his eyes clench and brows furrow. It hurts, he’s desperate, but it’s his last day on the ER rotation and his mind switches to a halt when his mind pitches the image of Doctor Robby’s thick arms and big hands and God damn it.
Dennis shutters, quickly whimpering out the rest of his daily prayer before tears leak and his head collapses on the bed. If God is here, they exist and and and…his breath startles as he pictures the crinkle in Robbys eyes.

Summary
Dennis had always known that he felt too much; that he was too loving, too trusting, too forgiving. That's probably why he still hasn't ended things with Robby, despite the man making it clear they were not, and likely will never be together officially. Habits were hard enough to break on their own without the added emotional attachment, but if Dennis wanted to be happy, he knew he had to break free of the hold Michael Robinavitch had on him. Luckily for Dennis, he has all the support he needs, with love waiting in the wings to strike.

No more late night lab visits with Mr. Stark, hacking into government websites and building new stupid nanotech bots that vacuum the floor only if you beg it and sound like a certain Captain, or robots that twisted in all angles like infinity cubes to play ultimate twister with. No more study sessions with MJ, listening to old punk rock bands and doodling in the margins. No more lego building with Ned, building and taking apart and building that Lego Death Star dozens of times in his bedroom.
And, worst of all, no Aunt May to wake him up on his bad days with a worried frown on her lips and a fresh hot chocolate in her hands to warm him.

Dennis’ last year of medical school had him in Houston. This year, he matched to a hospital in a city where he has an issue, a big one. Both units he was doing his residency in were overrun by wolves, with only one other vampire that he’ll probably only ever see at handover. If that. That, and he was to be assigned to someone while he’s here. And it seemed those chosen weren’t too happy; well, who would be? No one wanted a fanged freak from a little town in Nebraska.
The real kicker, though, was what he’d been told before he left HR’s office.
“Welcome to Hell, it’s cold down there, but don’t expect a scarf to keep you warm.”
And isn’t that fucking comforting?

This is legitimately one of my favorite huckleabbot stories of all time. The author does a fantastic job at suspending disbelief and teasing enough for us, the reader, to logically know what’s happening but empathize with Dennis. A master craft at a dark and thoughtful tale of being stalked, and kinda just liking it. Really loved it and LOVE the authors other works too…
