And then what? said the voice of despair in the back of his head. He did not entertain it. Instead, he flipped over magazines the realtor had fanned out on the secretary desk. Better Homes and Gardens, Southern Living, the kind of domestic crap you saw in the aisles of the grocery store, written for bored suburban housewives or homeowner hopefuls romanticizing the rest of their lives. There was an irony that a romantic, idealized future would invade the home of Betsy Hagopian so soon after her death. Life is an invasive species. One of the great tragedies of the world is how easy it is to disappear.
And then what? said the voice of reason. Do something about it.

Summary
Another day, another city, another case. A case that, in anyone else's hands, would have been immediately accepted as reported: A series of bizarre, brutal, and unfortunate animal attacks. Open-and-shut, no-frills or dressings.
Which is, of course, exactly why Dana Scully found herself in the town of Meeker, Colorado, raising a skeptical brow at Mulder's insistence that the reported deaths were not only actually murders, but victims of a possible serial killer.

Summary
Five weeks ago, Mulder was brutally dumped by Diana. He’s hurt, humiliated, and determined to stay as far away possible from anything remotely resembling the X-Files. But, he's handed a case. It's a diplomatic request from Sweden asking the FBI to review a cold case profile. It turns out to be the 1986 assassination of the Swedish Prime Minister and Mulder, being the BSU's golden boy, is supposed to just look at the profile, comment on it, and move on. He doesn’t move on. And while he's busy not moving on, his past hunts him down.
