Katsuki realized that the idea of the two of them—Bakugou Katsuki and Midoriya Izuku, Kacchan and Deku—was woven so intimately into who he was that he’d never given any of it a second thought.
When he’d fallen in love with Izuku, he’d never thought to be afraid.
When Izuku turned down the invitation to work together as heroes, it completely derailed the plan that Katsuki had been working towards for the past eight years.
In the face of this unexpected turn of events, Katsuki quickly realized just how much he’d messed up by clinging to the idea of Izuku’s return. Because without Izuku there to fill in the gaps of his life, he became more and more aware of how painfully empty he felt.
With his future cleared of the last hopes and dreams of his youth, there was plenty of room for flowers to grow.

Deku.
Izuku recalled the name he’d heard Bakugou muttering earlier. He didn’t dare say it.
Bakugou was very still, staring stoically up at the night sky without so much as glancing over when Izuku spoke. Eventually, he took a deep breath and sighed it out slowly.
“Yes.”
Katsuki has loved and lost, and Izuku has never loved at all.

“Are you feeling alright, Kacchan?” Izuku asked softly.
“I’m fine, nerd,” Katsuki responded, just as quietly. “Quit asking.”
“Even here?”
They stopped walking, and Katsuki watched with heavy, tired eyes as Izuku slowly, carefully, brought his hand up to rest on his chest. Over his heart.
“It… feels kind of fast,” Izuku muttered, voice strained with worry and exhaustion. “Is that normal?”
“…yeah,” Katsuki said after a brief pause.
It’s normal when you’re around.
For some reason, Katsuki felt like the fading of One For All correlated with the fading of Izuku from the picture of his life. It wasn’t like he’d never see him again, but it wouldn’t be the same.
There had to be more than surviving just to watch One For All die and Izuku retire from heroics. That couldn't be the end of their story.
All Katsuki knew for sure was that the more Izuku faded from his life, the more uncertain and dark everything became.

Wolf whistles and jeering broke out amongst their teammates as Katsuki froze in place. Unjustified anger stirred inside of him along with an ugly, twisting feeling in his gut.
He didn’t care.
He didn’t.
Why the hell would he care about what Midoriya Izuku did with his stupid life?
Katsuki and Izuku as rivals on a college baseball team.
