“–I suppose there aren’t a lot of other options. Would you… do you think…” He bit his lip and smiled, his eyes giving Wylan that hopeful, pleading look he was so desperately good at. And Ghezen, Wylan would do anything for Jesper on a normal day, never mind when he sent that look Wylan’s way.
“You really think people would believe we’re a couple?” Wylan squeaked before he could think of a coherent response. The corner of Jes’s mouth twitched in a smirk.
“Come on, Wy, I know I’m not your usual type, but I can’t be that bad, can I?” He winked and Wylan surely turned even pinker. He bided a long moment to conjure a response by taking a deep pull of the dregs of his coffee. Jesper supposedly not being Wylan’s type was far from the problem.

Jesper's behind on rent, but for his bookshop to be featured in a local business magazine, it has to be owned and run by a couple. Wylan's flower shop is just next door.

At an instant, Wylan’s bright smile turns precarious. It’s not so much anything to do with his expression as it is the sudden tense in posture, the way he so obviously tries to look unbothered.
Jesper grimaces, just as instantly. “You don’t have to–”
“It’s nothing. It was part of a treatment this ‘doctor’ my father called had, for my reading…” Wylan makes a small, unspecific gesture with an awkward smile. The silence that hangs is thick.

A discovery of a locked-away box of Wylan’s childhood belongings stirs up an argument between Jesper and Wylan, and then a conversation—but not before bringing up a few memories too.

Love at first sight is overrated, but it’s the getting to know each other that seems just right.
