Summary
Shane feels like a rookie all over again. He thinks back on that time in the showers, all those years ago, back to a teenage Ilya who raised his eyebrows and nodded his head at Shane in a silent dare. Back to a Shane and Ilya who were brave enough to make that jump, to see what could come of it. Shane thinks about how nervous he was, about being with a man for the first time, about that man being Ilya fucking Rozanov. His biggest enemy, his fiercest competitor, the only person in the world who understood what it meant to stand at the top and how truly fucking lonely it was. Except, they weren’t alone anymore. Not after the showers, not after the hotel rooms and the secret condos and the house in Boston- They never have to face it alone anymore.
And yet, Shane still somehow finds himself in moments like these where Ilya pushes them into different paths. As if they both aren’t racing for the same fucking thing.
Or: Shane just really wants to be there for Ilya, but his boyfriend isn't making it easy for him.
